Universal clear report.

So Saturday, I get a call. It's around 100 degrees where he is, doing a black all over.
All he had was a slow activator, so he added 10% 870 and made the clear faster.
He called, and I said try some retarder as it takes less as he did not have a very slow or slow reducer.
So today, he calls said added 7% retarder to each mixed cup, did four coats, and waited 20 mins between coats yesterday.
I waited today to call because I only waited 20 mins between coats and was worried it might blow up; nope!
I explained why 20 mins worked, and he said today he would try 15% retarder on another black car.

Only the net results count, and he made his formula to work in his shop.

Okay, I guess I would have decided not to add any reducer at all but everyone's thought process works differently. I mean if it's too fast it's not going to work like a flow coat anyway which is what I am assuming this was.

You are right!
Always to slow anything down; go next slower grade than the temp.
For example, if 85 out and you add slow unless you stay under 5%, you will reduce solids and speed up dry.
If above you add 895, it will slow cure down.
Of course, if you use retarder, it requires less to do the same thing.

I can't imagine spraying a complete in 100° temps and don't think that I ever do it. But based on using Extra Slow on big areas at about 90°, I would assume that retarder would be required at 100°, flow coat or not!

on the last black job i did i was running almost 20 percent in each coat 30 mins in between its insane retrader will do? hardy no peel or urethane wave 5 coats of universal.

i have the 56 ready to sand a little the epoxy for paint. glad i did not try it last month. i'm shooting for cooler temps and using med acc . i may shoot myself in the foot but i want to reduce the uv just a tad to thin it down some. i'm determined to get nice flat thin coats. as much as i screwed up this car it needs to be right.

sometimes you have to tune to you environment and shop conditions.

had a long talk with the 56 about all this crap. amazing what a 45 held to the firewall will do. looked at the moto base and said your next .\/.

Lol. It's why I named my 60 "the rematch" because everytime we meet in the garage, its going to be a fight. If I lose, it needs to fight me again next time
