Got my SPI shipment and have everything I need to finish.
Now to get busy and finish.

You are brave stacking those cans on your hood like that!

How did you paint the bed floor and sides? I'm doing an old truck right now and figure it would be easy enough to put clean booties on and sit inside the bed while I spray it (sides and bottom), but it's the SECOND coat that I'm still struggling to figure out.

I stacked them very gently. No issues.

To shoot the bed I made this kneeling platform. Worked pretty well.

So many posts here are some version of "Can I break the rules?"
I was ready to break the rules today.
I'm going to shoot slicksand on my hood. Lots of metalwork to make the d$#m aftermarket part fit, so it is needed.
I shot epoxy over bare metal, did filler work, then shot epoxy over that last night.
The epoxy had been inducing 48 hours so I though I could skip the 48 hour rule for poly over epoxy, and shoot it tonight.
Then I saw a post on a Facebook group of a guy who shot base over sealer that was a year old, and it came off in sheets (of course.)
I wouldn't do that, but was reminded to "follow the rules!"
So I will.

Dean I just wanted you to know I’m really enjoying your build. My first resto was a 72 El Camino SS mostly done in my driveway lol. The car wasn’t actually that old at the time now that I think of it but I had to replace every exterior panel except roof and passenger door skin. Luckily everything was still available from GM. I’d post some pics but don’t want to clutter your thread.

The only factory metal in this pic is the roof, pillars and door sill/rocker. Everything else is reproduction. Luckily it bolted right up and fit perfectly (big eye roll.)

Dean, the stance of that car is spot on! I can't wait to see it on the ground finished. Maybe wet the concrete/asphalt for reflective purposes - think the clouds reflection.......

Be fun to see a few pics.
Ok you asked lol. When I bought the car huge rear flairs we’re on it. You can tell this is early ‘80’s? Girlfriend (wife now) helped with vinyl top, headliner and upholster. I guess looking back most of the welding etc was in the street not the driveway. Somehow we made it all work back then. Now I have to have lifts, etc ha!

I like the stance as well, but it's gonna have to come up a bit.
Right now I can't put my hand between top of front tire and inner fender - it will definitely rub.
Luckily I put adjustable coil overs in, so raising it is no problem.
I plan to keep the current slight rake of the back.
After all, I was a gear head in the 70's when every respectable car was 6 inches higher on the back, even if it took air shocks or those dangerous leaf spring brackets.

Can you "roll" the wheel wells?
When you mentioned the stance, I started looking at that.
I know "rolling" was what a lot of guys did. If I remember, a baseball bat was the tool of choice.
I looked and the interference in the wheel well is a pretty limited part of the assembly.
It looked, at quick glance, like I could cut that area out and weld in a different shape that would eliminate the problem.
All with the fenders and inner fenders on the car.
I've put that on the "investigate further" list.
I do like the way it looks and would love to keep it.

I don’t know where your point of contact is but an alignment with a little negative camber can help quite a bit. Factory alignment specs really don’t work if you care about handling. I usually use -.5 degree camber and 5 degrees caster. You could go -.75 degree camber if needed.
