Primer Recommendation

I have been using the SPI regular build 2k primer and am getting ready to put in a new order and was wandering if the Turbo would be a good fit for me? I need all the advice I can get so give me your take on the pro's of turbo over regular build, Thanks in advance.

The first gallon of SPI 2K I bought was regular build, the second was Turbo, and I have never gone back. I like the versatility of Turbo being able to mix 4:1 to 4:1:1 to fit any use I may need it for. Collision jobs I mix 4:1:1 and spray with a 1.3 Tekna or a 1.0 Startingline mini gun depending on the size of the spot. Flashes really quick. 2-3 coats, depending how good the bodyman was that day:) Restoration usually mixed 4:1, sometimes with a splash of reducer, or retarder in the summer, shot with an old DeVilbiss 1.8. I just like the idea of minimal shrinkage after minimal time when doing collision, especially.

The minimal shrink is what I am after also, I just needed a little push to get me going to turbo. Can you spray the turbo over clean bare metal?

Small areas we do in dealerships every day.
But larger areas epoxy first.
All 3 of our primers could be called direct to metal, i just dont like the dtm term..
Good to know! I just lost a day due to spraying epoxy over a tiny 1/8" burn-thru because I was afraid of Turbo on bare metal.

Also, another happy Turbo user here.. Fast dry, easy to sand.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three IMO. I've used all three, Turbo, Hi-build and regular, and they all perform nicely. Hi-build really needs a big gun. 2.0 minimum, even bigger works better. Regular build for the price is really hard to beat. Turbo sprays better than the Regular but it's not like a night and day difference. If price is a big concern on a job, use Regular. If price is not as much of a concern use Turbo. Just my opinion.:)

One advantage to Turbo is the availability of white. I keep a gallon of black and white to make any shade I need to match the shade of the color I am spraying, on collision jobs, for quicker coverage.

I have never used anything but the regular build primer. If a vehicle has an excessive amount of issues then I will shoot poly primer, block sand most of that to the floor and move to the regular build primer to get ready for sealer/paint.

Not saying the Turbo isn't great, just never had the need to try it.

I too have only used regular build on all my projects, I am sure all the primers are great but I have never needed anything but regular. I am going to try turbo the next time I order.
