Auto Rod Tech's Project Thread

Nice to see you posting something again Chad. Enjoyed looking at your posts in pro-touring when you were doing them, then I found them here & go to pro-touring a little less.

By the way, do you do your own painting?? :)
Are my threads still visible on there even?

That's the problem with that forum. Any of the shops on there are paying a fee to advertise, but last time when I went to quit he said that all my old threads would be deleted.. Makes no sense how a forum like that can have such a following, considering there are so many other options out there. My problem was that I would forget to log on for months so it wasn't that beneficial.

Looking good Chad. I like the bracing you used, shouldn't budge at all!

Thanks.. If anything moves on this one.. I give up.. lol.. You notice the hook point in the front? I use that to raise and lower the body off of the chassis. This bracing was also used as a jig to help align the panels since we basically started with only a firewall with this one.

Chad,
Just curious how many coats of color did you spray?
The view from the top of the cowl makes it look like the upper portion is darker while just the opposite is true from the front view.

Really nice looking job. That one I'm sure will be a relief to get done a whole lot of work went into that.

It will be nice to see it finished, this has been a huge project, while I am somewhat relieved about the fact that we have never planned to be the ones to finish this car, I am somewhat bummed about the fact because I may never see this car finished, once we are done we are sending it to Canada for the owner to finish assembly.

Actually Dave sprayed this one so I am not sure, it is plenty covered though. I told him to track everything as we are panel painting it.. The funny thing is that a lot of this is going to get repainted because I do not want tape lines, but if for some odd reason the body ever has to come off of the chassis, they will be able to see that the bottom side of the body mounts were also painted. We have put a lot of detail into this car with all of the things that you just won't ever see. No sense in stopping now.

Chad I recently had a chance to spray some of the automotive art motobase that I got from my buddy Kevin up at Straighline in PortHuron. I am pretty impressed with how it performed. Very nice product for sure.

Glad you liked the paint, Kevin is a cool dude.

What color did you get? Typically it covers like ink.

New guys should note how the taping is done, no coating should ever go where it's not prepped, ready, and necessary. Really love the arrow straight bodywork, and the color looks great!

You can just feel the hours in this one can't you.. hahaha.. Thanks Crash..

On the exterior we did 3 coats, let it sit all night, sand and two more for appearance, I went in and worked all day to get a start on the fenders, hood and trunk.. I got them epoxy sealed with 3 coats of base, tomorrow morning we will sand, two coats of base and then clear.
