Recoat window

When is it too late to spray another coat of clear? I wait until it's not stringy to spray additional coats but it was so hot Saturday I missed that window. I took my normal break after my second coat then went back to check and most of the panels were past tacky. They would still fingerprint easily, but we're not tacky. I needed another coat but decided against it. What is too late to recoat? What will happen if I recoat after that window?

Collision repair type work I always wait until I can take my finger with a nitrile glove on and drag it against the clear (adjacent to where I'm painting) and it doesn't stick or string. With some clears this happens in as little as 5-7 minutes. Barry recommends 30 minutes for ultimate final appearance with his clears so you probably would have been fine shooting another coat. Just depends on the clear you are using really. Pretty safe bet though that if you are approaching 45 minutes to an hour and it's 75 or above, another coat may not be a good idea. Others on here can probably give you a more definitive answer.

With spi never go over 45 mins.
Sensitivity can occur in the 60 to 75 min range under perfect conditions.
Now lets say 80 degrees and you used fast activator or overloaded with polar i have seen a few blow up at the 45 min mark.

This is kind of a unique subject as you cannot say the exact time frame that the frying of clear will happen, I remember about 10 to 15 years ago one company had a 30 minute window but it was a production clear made to apply the second coat in 10 minutes.
Here is my most common call on this subject and may get two a year at best.
Shop owner comes in Saturday to paint a job that they did not get done, applies 1st coat and a customer sees car there and stops.
The call I get is went to apply 2nd coat and fender wrinkles but he was smart enough to stop and call.
The common statement is it would have been about an hour but not sure.
I tell him to ignore the fender and wait 30 more minutes and shoot his 2nd coat and a 3rd coat (a must) if done this way.
And we can fix the fender Monday.
The 30 minutes is getting him out of the 60 to 75 minute widow.

So another coat will adhere after the sensitivity time frame?
