1968 Plymouth GTX

Pulled the plug and bought this car for my next project.
Owner had taken it to a "restoration shop" here in town and they dismantled it but never did anything else. So the car is pictured here assembled but I will be getting boxes, bags and panels when it arrives tomorrow.

Looks like the original color was the famous resale Blue color they had---big bucks.

Awesome! Make sure the front grill is there... Took me 2.5 years to find the right one for my '68 that was affordable. They're getting upward to $1,200 for a decent one!

Yes, it is there but does have a crack in the plastic insert. I believe it is repairable but won't get to that for a while.
Right now I am trying to inventory all the parts according to the photos since the car is arriving disassembled. All of the interior will need to be redone. Seat frames and foam seem to be in good shape and were recovered at one time.
Looks like the heater core was leaking based on the rusted floor pan.

If that floor is the worst of it, you got a great GTX there!
Good that the grill is there too and in tact. I do know Tony @ Tonys mopar parts had a really nice grill for $875, but still seems like a lot of $$$... so hopefully you can save yours.
I'm in search of a good set of front buckets myself...
Best of luck with your 68, 68! :)
Here's the grill I found on ebay for $550... Nice driver quality.

I'm not a Chrysler guy by any stretch, but that looks like a nice car. Judging from your work on your other car, I'm expecting good things for this one as well. Keep the pics coming!

I have been slowly dismantling the car, taking pictures, bagging and tagging parts.
Removed the dash and then pulled the heater box:

Pulled the front tire and found the car came with optional disc brakes:

Dismantled the right side removing the caliper, rotor, upper and lower control arms, strut and torsion bar:

Lower control arm bushing completely worn through on one side:

Pulled the fuel tank and lines:

My "new parts needed" list is growing like crazy. LOL

Ha, ha. My work is not even in the same league as those who can fabricate any part they can envision. I'm more of a repair or replace it type guy. LOL

I mainly post pictures so that people who are thinking about restoring a car can see how much work is actually involved. Too often I have someone come by and say, how much do you charge to restore a car? When I give them my "time and materials" speech, they always ask for a "ballpark estimate" and when I answer honestly the shock is more than they can handle.

I bagged and tagged fairly well on my truck when I started, but man I really lacked on the initial tear down pictures. Not being detailed in that process really does come back to haunt you further on.

Seeing all the brackets for the brake pedal and dash really rung a bell with me, all that stuff once taken off for a couple years is hard to figure out how it went without nice pictures like you have.

Where did she come from again? Must have lived in a moist climate for some time with all the parts under the dash surface rusted like that.

The previous owner said New Mexico. The car was sitting outside with no glass or interior in it when I purchased it.
I noticed yesterday that the anti-sway bar is missing. This caused me to look closer at the lower control arms and sure enough there is no place for the anti-sway bar to attach. Thinking someone swapped out the original drum brakes for a disc brake set up but cannot tell for sure and don't understand the need for different LCAs. Unless maybe the front mounted calipers wouldn't fit with the anti-sway bar links?

Should have worked. Likely they replaced it for the same reason the bushing was shot and those had better bushings!
