Tekna Prolite air leaking

I went to spray my door jams today and the gun was acting odd. It's a Devilbiss Tekna Prolite.

When the trigger was pulled back half way, it sounded like it was leaking air near the needle. Then, when I pulled the trigger all the way back the paint just leaked out. When I was able to get some spray, it just spit. I called Devilbiss and she said it sounded like the needle pack. So I ordered one. Anyone else have experience with this?

I have only used this gun three times, prior and it worked flawless. I have an 80 gal compressor with 15.1 cfm @90. The compressor is regulated at the wall to 120 and the gun is regulated from there.

Good thing I only mixed a little. At the price of paint, I can't afford to be testing, so I'm gonna try thinner, once I get it back together. should be Monday.

At least got the Doors and Jams epoxied (different gun)

Yea, I made sure it was. Another symptom: I have the Dkups system and when I turn it upside down and pull the trigger the "cup" doesn't collapse, so it can be sprayed upside down.

I've had that issue with several Devillbiss guns over the years. It's an issue with all their guns not just the Tekna. Had several Devillbiss HVLP "Primetime" guns do that shortly after I got them. They were not cheap guns either. Had a Finishline that I used for primer do it a few months after I got it. Make sure you get several of the bushings as it'll probably happen again. Also keep it lubed,(spray gun lube) that will help with wear on the plastic bushing.

I have a Tekna Copper that I use all the time and have never had an issue with it.

Chris, are you talking about lubing the packing nut area or the gasket behind the tip?

Picture shows it better than I can describe it...:)

There is also a bushing on the back body of the gun on the fluid tip which will go as well. Got to be careful tightening them and make sure everything goes back like it was when disassembling them for cleaning.

Thanks everyone. Needle packing solved it. Got the Jams painted, but after spraying SPI black base, something odd happened. I'll start another thread.
