Very nice job and attention to detail. I am fond of the 67-72 c10's, and have a 68. Now that warm weather is here keep pushing through!

Thanks, Ive been working every chance I get on it, I have a car show Id really like to make in August.

Ive been blocking on my box, epoxied another batch of miscellaneous pieces, and managed to get my hood to fit.

My bedsides ended up being more work than I thought they would have been, mainly due to damage from the blaster. Both sides had dents that needed filler, it was a small amount to get them straight but something I didnt really count on I guess. The side that fell was worse but hopefully it will turn out ok. Im blocked out with both of them through 320, and plan on putting a coat of 1:1 epoxy on as a final sanding coat before sealer.

Damaged side in feather fill, sanded with 120 and 180. Had a couple spots I spotted in epoxy and a little filler on top of that

Same side, 1 coat of epoxy over the feather fill, then 2 coats of 2k regular build, sanded with 180 and 320.

With my hood I needed to gain more adjustment in the hinges, Im very fortunate to have a cousin with a nice mill, he was able to widen the holes 6/32. It was a big relief to have them done precisely by him instead of me with a die grinder. With the extra wiggle room I was able to find a nice compromise. For all the trouble I had with the hood it didnt turn out too bad, I cant complain too much it is the first hood Ive ever painted.

Looks good from here. My grandfather use to work at the GM plant in Baltimore MD. truck line and the fit and finish was not that great from the factory!!!!

This is turning out just awesome. The hood gaps/contour look spot on. I am sure you would like a set of the Eddie motorsports hinges, but that’s a bit too much for hinges. Educate me on the 2k regular primer please. Is this a good sacrificial layer for sanding versus sanding your epoxy?

Thanks.

Thats pretty cool about your grandpa. The fit and finish wasnt the best, but they were made to be worked. I set out to just try and make things even where your eye travels and maintain or slightly improve what I had to start with.

I have a set of All American Billet hinges, they were stupid expensive but they are really nice. Ball bearings on all pivots make them super smooth. 2k Regular is a build primer made by SPI. You can build with and sand both but I suppose you could say 2k builds more and sands a little easier at the expense of durability. Epoxy could really do it all if you wanted to, its a great product.

Speaking of epoxy Im always amazed by it. I had a thin layer, probably an 1/8", in a cup. I pulled it out and its fascinating how good it bends, absorbs impacts, its just a cool product. I wish I would have coated my frame with it instead of powder coating but at the time I had no way of doing it.

I didn’t realize the regular primer has some build to it, I will probably get some of it with my next order. Nice on the hinges! Might as well while you are at it. Like my buddy always tells me, it’s just money.

Just got done with my inner fenders. I ended up getting some trash in the first round of clear. I sanded the trash out with 600, fixed a small spot with base, and flow coated them. They came out great, a good practice run before my box. Only problem is the weather is going to change next week, hopefully I can adjust around it.

I love taking something from bare steel to clear, when it goes good it's fun and rewarding in the end.

I had two long days but I have my box cleared. I want to thank everyone for the pointers on how to set up my box from another post, and thank Barry for some text message guidance yesterday.

I started off sanding everything out to 400 and then going over it with a red scuff pad, from there I sprayed epoxy reduced 10 percent. My plan was to let that flash for most of the day and go to base, but I had one spot I double coated on a flange that cratered. So I ended up letting it sit over night and wet sanding this morning. I had a few more spots I found and touched up before 50 percent reduced epoxy and base. I let it sit for around 5 hours before clear, I would have liked to have gone over night but the weather looks really hot the next 5 days so I ended up rushing more than I would have liked. Ive got to hand it to you guys that do this daily, this is alot of work, and its damn tricky. Clear gets me every time, Im either too wet or dry on the first coat. In this case the first coat went a little dry, I adjusted and got it alot better and put 3 more good coats on, just a little more buffing I guess. The outside turned out pretty good, the inside was more of the problem, its hard to spray into corners.

I only got one side shot of the clear, I need to take a few more once its dry.

If Im honest I cant believe my body work came out as good as it did, the boxside that is cleared in the last pic is the one that was dropped.

Looks nice sprint! I'm no pro, but you are spot on about being a lot of work and being tricky spraying into corners!

Thanks everyone, I had a busy week.

I was able to finally get my engine running. I need to get a better video of it running, but Ive had it up to temp and ran the transmission through all the gears. It gave me a fit getting it going, Im not sure if it was my programming or my ECM but a new ECM fixed it. It sounds fantastic and everything so far is operating without major issues or leaks. I did have some clearance issues pop up with my exhaust, so Im redoing that where it goes up and over my trailing arms.

I got my No Limit rear sway bar installed, it came powder coated but was all beat up, so I coated it with some SPI Epoxy.

During the week at home I have been working on my bed wood. I coated the bottoms and sides with some trusty SPI Epoxy, I figured what better to seal off and give me the best possible coating on the bottom of the wood. From there I stained the tops black, I applied 4 coats lightly sanding between 3 of them to knock the grain back. It so far has the look Im going for. All I have left is a couple coats of Universal with some flattener added.

I decided to flow coat my box, I had hoped to not have to go through the extra work, I tried similar steps to what I did on my hood but it just didnt turn out on my box. So I worked on sanding the clear with a combo of 400 and 600 grit and scuffed everything. Today I got everything cleaned up and sprayed 3 more coats of Universal. I added a little retarder in each coat, and slowed my travel speed. I tend to get all amped up to paint and end up traveling way to fast ending up with dry spray. Its tricky to get the right combo but what I had today worked pretty good. Im super happy how it turned out, stuff just takes on another look flow coated, its really something.

Had the day off yesterday. I was playing around with a few things at the shop. Started off messing around with my engine. It really hasnt run right from day 1, I figured it was a poor tune as I have added quite a few bolt ons. I ended up finding two cylinders not firing, as of right now am guessing I have two plugged injectors since I have good spark, or at least thats what Im hoping.

After that I pushed my box outside to get some sun. Im really happy with my box minus one thing that popped up out in the sun. Apparently I didnt body work the top of the front panel, or if I did I missed a bunch of waves. I can remember working on that panel so I dont really know what happened. I guess of all the places to have a screw up that isnt too bad of one to have, I kick myself about it though.

With the box out of the way I set out to get my bed wood cleared. I had some concerns about the stain I used but Barry put that to rest. I added 25% flattner to the Universal and this is after 24 hours. I am super happy with the results, it is the exact look I was after.

It looks so good I have to comment on both forums. Most of us are our own worst critics and no one is going to look down the front panel.

Can't wait to see the bed on the truck!

Absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you.

LOL I have been waiting for someone to catch on to the both forum thing. I really like spending time on here so I started a second one here, I have learned so much on this forum I thought maybe I could give back a slight amount. It sounds corny but I really am grateful I found this forum, its just a great place where I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge.

I've learned a lot on here too and in my opinion, posting on here is much more user friendly. And it's nice to have a dedicated paint/body forum for the best products out there.
