    57 Chevy truck

Thanks for all the likes, and comments! Also, thanks to everyone whom has contributed to this forum! Don, this was the hardest thing I've ever done. Never again! I have learned that black is impossible to get "perfect". Too many parts, too many curves, too much detail. It is far from perfect...

    color sanding

Slammed, nice work. Looks great! Sounds like I'm wasting my time and $ with 5000 and 8000 trizact. I ran out of Cutmax, so maybe I'll try ACA500 next. Another question for you guys. When dry sanding with the Eagle paper, it loads up quickly. How are you all cleaning off the paper?

    color sanding

It seems like a lot of guys here just do a 2 step buff polish. So 5 rounds of buff/polish? Are you suggesting wool through white all with the same cuttting compound? What is the last sanding grit you stop with? Thanks.

    color sanding

Thanks Barry. I'm afraid of tearing through the clear with wool on 4. Maybe I will give it a try on something that I can easily re-clear if I destroy it.

    color sanding

Thanks for the help. It will be a few weeks before I get to try again. I will agree that I'm not getting prior scratch out. Hand sanding, I'm using a hard plastic block for 1000 wet, going front to back as mentioned here previously. Changing direction at every grit. 1500-2000 wet, I'm using...

    color sanding

I have used your method EXACTLY. I spray the panel with a bottle. When I hear a squeek, I rinse the paper in a bucket, clean the panel, and re-spray with the water bottle. Doing about 1 square foot at a time, clean, dry, wipe off the dirt, repeat.

    color sanding

Probably not sanding enough. Though I'm sure junk is getting under the paper and causing scratches. YES, large pigtails deep into the clear. I had to go back to 1000 by hand to get out the pigtails. Using a Festool sander on speed 2 (of 6). Only using the weight of the sander, no pressure...

    color sanding

I'm a little late to this thread, haven't been here for a while. This thread is priceless, and a good review to read! In 2020/2021, I painted my truck with black base / universal clear, and finally getting to the cut, buff, and polish. Couple years ago I bought Eagle 1000/1200/1500, and...

    AIR HOSE RECOMMENDATIONS

With half a fender to go on my last coat of clear, my fairly new flexzilla blew apart at the fitting @ 120 psi. I nearly soiled myself. So no one here has had one fail?

How straight on the body lines?

I just went through this on the style line of my 57 Chevy pickup. 2 rounds of poly primer and blocking took care of it. I don't think turbo would work well. Like the others said, I blocked the upper surface flat, then put tape on the upper (like you did in your pic). Then used a PVC pipe of...

    Gun Cleaning with lacquer thinner?

    1964 Buick Riviera

Guys, thanks for all the details. I did a panel yesterday all by hand. No swirls... Took forever. Don, the pigtails were universal clear sprayed about a month old. Jim, I had the same experience. I could only get about 1 square foot before the paper loads up and swirls. I used Eagle yellow...

    1964 Buick Riviera

Nice! I just attempted my first cut/buff yesterday on a door. SPI black bc/cc. It looks nothing like your results. I'll have to follow your steps. I did everything with a D/A. Lots of pigtails from the 1200/1500. Since every step with the D/A is orbital, I can't see when I get the...

    Primer Recommendation

Good to know! I just lost a day due to spraying epoxy over a tiny 1/8" burn-thru because I was afraid of Turbo on bare metal. Also, another happy Turbo user here.. Fast dry, easy to sand.

The proper way to wipe down a vehicle prior to paint

The other paint shop in town sells these for prep wipes: Trimaco one tough. https://www.amazon.com/Trimaco-Wiping-12-inch-16-5-inch-dispenser/dp/B000W35ZWS/ref=sr_1_4?crid=10Y4HUPRUNQ26&dchild=1&keywords=trimaco+one+tuff&qid=1600788542&sprefix=trimaco+on%2Caps%2C250&sr=8-4 Quite a bit more...

    Another activator shelf life question

I just used some bedliner that was 5 - 1/2 years old. Opened 3 years ago. Worked fine. Mixed a test batch first.

    Your favorite Poly primer??

Slicksand still sands like concrete. My next gallon is G2 featherfill.

DeKups. 24 oz is perfect size if you're spraying in sections.

    57 Chevy truck

4 coats of SS Black. My gun technique needs work. I have some areas of heavy orange peel. I might sand it out with 800 and re-shoot. The last coat, I didn't hit the jambs. They are really rough.
