Painting - re order of things

I'm an amateur painter, I've done my other two cars before that turned out fine, but now am close to doing my '67 Camaro body. There will be several steps (underside of floor with base clear, inside of trunk with splatter coat, interior dash and built in window frames in base clear black, top...

    Subfloor seams and epoxy color.

Ok, thanks. Saves me a lot of work and that’s how it came from the factory.

    Subfloor seams and epoxy color.

These are photos of the udeerside of the floor on my '67 Camaro. Should I be seam sealing all these lapped joints? I don't think they were from the factory (I've owned the car since new), but it seems to me it's a great place for moisture to get in and rust to start if I don't. There's lot...

    71 Chevelle Repaint.

Wow! I had a car with tiny water blisters from being covered with an indoor cover for several weeks, but it was wet the whole time, but nothing like that.

    Seam sealer timing

Sorry for the naive question, but I'm just getting ready to spray my last couple coats of SPI epoxy for final sanding before paint. Obviously I'm an amateur hobbiest. I've used only SPI epoxy from the bare metal up and am not using any high build or polyester for surfacing. This is on a '67...

    Ignorant question about cleaners?

I have a couple gallons of 99% isopropyl alcohol just sitiing around. Can it be used to clean off finger prints etc, like I would normally do with the SPI waterbased cleaner? I know you can't use the waterbased cleaner on bare filler, but would this be ok on paint and epoxy? Maybe not strong...

    ceramic detail

Shine, I used this Carpro CQuartz UK on my '37 about two years ago, I was pretty impressed. It's a lot of work to prep, including a good polish, then cleaning with alcohol, then two coats of ceramic in small sections, but bugs just wipe off with warm water in seconds and I detail it just using...

    Ok, sounds good. Thanks again.

    Prep to new fuel tank

Thanks Barry. I just looked up the coating on the manufacturer's site (Spectra) and it's called Ni-Tern Steel, which is an alloy of lead and tin coating. I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse as far as adhesion, but I'll follow your procedures above. Bill

    Prep to new fuel tank

I just got a new fuel tank for my '67 Camaro. It came with a film of wax or oil on it. I wiped it down first with laquer thinner to help with the stubborn coating, then I scrubbed it thoroughly with Dawn dish soap, then scrubbed really well with red scotch brite pad and SPI 700-1 wax and...

    High build over SPI epoxy

Well damn....lol. I sprayed two full coats on it late Saturday afternoon and was hoping to wait now until this Friday night to shoot the high build, which would be 6 days. I work in my construction business all week and have to push the car on the rotisserie out to be able to spray in my home...

    High build over SPI epoxy

Yes, thanks. I'm aware of that one, just wasn't clear on the high build over epoxy time.

    High build over SPI epoxy

Ok, thanks. I can keep my home booth at 70 degrees, but I'll wait and do the high build next weekend. I just thought it would be nice to do it the same day, but not if it's not recommended.

    High build over SPI epoxy

Question about spraying 2 part high build over SPI epoxy. I'm going to spray some doors tomorrow with SPI epoxy and would like to be able to spray the interior face edges of the doors with high build the same day to cover some minor manufacturing stress lines, almost like heavy sanding...

sealant between outer wheel house and quarter panel

Thanks, I hadn't thought about inside the drop downs although I did epoxy all that and the inside of the quarters before installing.

sealant between outer wheel house and quarter panel

I'd like to install some seam sealant between the outer wheel house and the inside of the quarter panel on my '67 Camaro, without making a huge mess on the inside. I'm wondering about using some cavity wax with one of the flexible wands. Is this suitable in this application? If so, would I be...

    Naive question about epoxy sealer

I'm an amateur painter, so this may seem like a stupid question, but I'm using SPI black epoxy as the final surfacer before spraying with HOK Kandy basecoat. I'm using their Kandy Brandywine base, which they recommend over a black basecoat. I've done a sample and quite like the colour, but my...

    Slick Sand or ???

Making some headway, looks much better with the epoxy done, Now I'll do some touch ups, resand and probably do it in base clear to match the body. Here's a before and a current photo.
