1960 IMPALA CONVERTIBLE BIG PROJECT

Still plugging away. My job blocked this spi forum so I don't get on as much

Got the body back on the frame to mock up the continental kit and drive train. Had to do some fab work to the bumpers and valance to accommodate the 1959 kit. We got the gen V stabbed in there yesterday using dirty dingo sliders , and a shallow oil pan. Plenty of clearance.

Next up is to assess the firewall situation and see how I want to mold it out. I'm just about ready to take the frame to sand blast and start the bodywork process on that.

It's so hot, that one of my.spare rollers laying against the shop, popped just sitting there. And its only may lol
It's been in the high 90s here lately. Yesterday broke 100 and very windy.

No AC in the shop kind of kills my desire to do much out there. Best time to work is 5 am to 10 am and then go back out at 6 pm and work until your tired.

I got out there at about 630 today and sprayed some poly primer on my buddy's car. It was 81

Still gettin after it. Friday I had a mobile sand blaster come out and blast the frame and by buddy's rear end lol. Followed up yesterday with a quart of black epoxy. Rear end is new money. Frame is good, I'm going to do a little filler work on some areas to clean up my amateur welds. Moving right along.

Happy 4th of July. Still plugging away on this car. Past couple days me and my buddy molded all the control arms uppers, lowers, and custom made rears. U can see the stock rear trailing arms behind the new one

This is interesting since I don’t know anything about bagging a car like this. Keep it coming…. :)

Thank Don. Everything is plated with 3/16 , these things are beasts. The rears are made of 2x3 box tube. Debating on getting all these chrome plated. I want the chrome but I don't want the maintenance. I've had cars with chromed suspension and it's extremely high maintenance

Plugging away on this jalopy. Almost got the frame molded and ready to paint too much work on this .

I never enjoyed doing frames. I'll probably never do another one since I dont paint full time anymore. But nobody will ever understand the amount of work and pain that goes into a frame until they do one....and try to make it look beautiful.

I'm hoping to paint it by end of August. Well see. I'll never mold one again. Drop off at powdercoat and call it done.

Big step on this project. I got the frame painted, and all assembled as a rolling chassis. Some details include recessed cage nuts for bumper brackets and radiator support. Molded idler arm bracket. Front sway bar access holds deleted, recessed cross member, molded motor Mounts, custom transmission mount brackets, custom wishbone brackets, it has a quick performance ford 9 inch rear end with 350 gear, it is narrowed 1 inch on each side (to clear the cruiser skirts). Lost track of the time on this thing but it was probably 100 hours after all the metal work. The wheels are almost 30yrs old , that I sent out to get refinished. Once I got the frame where I wanted it, I sanded with 320 and 1 coat of epoxy reduced about 5%, then 2 coats of some eastwood ceramic frame paint. I like the product, but it needs a 1.8 tip to spray it good. Next up is prep and paint the 5.3 and tranny. Need to decide on a front drive kit but I'm leaning towards CVF kit. Plugging away.

Looks great. I don’t know anything about this type of build. What are those cylinders where the shocks normally install?

Don

That frame looks like it was a whole lotta fun to smooth out!!!! lol.

I am enjoying this build! Nice work!
