We started on this project 3 years ago but the last year it has been on hold. The owner sold it and the new owner wants us to mount the body on the chassis get it rolling and he will finish putting it together.

This is what we started with

Hey Rusty, how about some info on how Brian gets the plastic on so nice when taping, he has to have some tricks.

What is your buffing sequence/products on the black ss?

Wet sand 1000, 2000 than 2500. Brian has and air buffer and does not know how many rpm's. Buff with wool pad using Presta ultra cutting cream than change wool pads and polish with Presta . Next foam pad with Presta swirl remover (low rpm). Next a little swirl remover and Presta spray and shine on the foam pad (low rpm). Next he sprays the panel with spray and shine and wipes it off.

We have all the sheetmetal sanded and buffed all that is left is to install the front end. I would rather work on a Mustang or Fairlane any day even a Camaro is easier.

Looks beautiful Rusty as all of us have come to expect from you guys.. Another classic saved... Cant wait to see it all together.. Im sure it will be nothing short of amazing

Sometimes to appreciate a project like this you need to see the before and after pics next to each other.. I started at the bottom and scrolled up.. Which was soon followed by a "oh geeze" I think i woke up the dog with that one. lol.

Outstanding work as always. The wealth of information and expertise on this site is incredible but I have to say any 'Rusty' thread is a must read for me.

Rusty, Just out of curiosty what determines wether you use Slick Sand or SPI Turbo like I've seen you do on other projects?

Whenever I have to do a lot of filler work or a Classic and want the panel straight I use Slick Sand. After the bondo work I spray black epoxy than two coats of Slick Sand. Next day or two I block with 80 trying to sand down the gray until I start seeing black. Next I spray two more coats of Slick than sand with 180 followed by 2 coats of Turbo than spray a guide coat. I wet sand with 400 than spray reduced epoxy. I sand the epoxy with 600 or 800 than spray the base.

I love projects like this. I even like doing them, but they sure require a big pocket book to do a whole project.
Do you sand this layer down to black as well?
Yes I want to get the majority sanded off so it is only in the low areas. I'm sure there are other methods but this works for me.

Not a Galaxie some foreign car we were working on
