Rusty Gillis
This week we have a new project that needs a little rust repair. The first thing we have to do is the cowl and floor.

This is what we found after removing the outer cowl panel

Next Brian drilled out all the spot welds on the lower cowl

That has always been the problem area on those Mustangs. The cowl rusts out then the floor boards under the cowl followed by the door pillars, etc.
Look forward to seeing the repair process as I know you will do it right.

Wow, you have your work cut out on this one! I am sure you will get it back to new in no time though! Look forward to see the progress pictures!

X2!

Either you work waaaay to cheap, or your customers are mentally ill to spend that kind of money on a car of little value even when restored.

I know it is hard to believe but with some folks money really isn't a matter of concern. They make up their mind to do something and they spend whatever it takes without flinching. I just need to find more customers like that. LOL

We all need those customers :)

The guy I am doing the buick for came over last week. After looking things over he said, "Let's pull all the chrome back off and send it out for re-chroming." I said, "You're the boss."

Today I started sanding the back side of parts and epoxy primed. The parts are e coated but I want epoxy on the back side so there is no chance of rust.

what kind of bit you use to drill out the spot welds? and where do you get them?

Rusty, are you going to paint the inside of the cowl all nice and shiny before the panel gets installed? That's one area that's always a PITA on these cars if the owner wants it to look perfect below the cowl grille. The last Mustang I did was fairly clean in there and I kept it clean of primer overspray but I've seen many where they are full of paint stripper and overspray from numerous repaints- a can of undercoating with a spraywand for a coverup is sometimes the only option...

thanks for the tip about the bits ya'll use. I flipped thru their website and was curious about the bits, think I'll go ahead and order one.

I'm interested in what you do about the cowl area on the mustangs too. I've done a couple mustangs but, I just welded up the cowl area owners wanted them smoothed out. Last one I done I sprayed magic mask in there before I sprayed the car. really wasn't my best idea for sure.
