1966 Valiant for the Other Daughter....

I've done the rest at home.

Good deal.

I remember the cam currently installed in my car was dailed in on the degree wheel set for kill, lol. When I went to break in the cam I thought I had enough carb (750 double pumper race built ). After I set the timing and adjusted the idle, I noticed my brand new TTI ceramic coated headers turning red. I frantically pulled some timing out and adjusted the carb for more fuel to no end. I didn't have enough carb and it ran lean, real lean.

Anyway, I broke the cam in for 20 minutes and shut it down. After cooling off I looked at my now burnt off ceraminc coated TTI headers. I called TTI explained what happened and they where nice enough to recoat the headers for free. I replaced the 750 with a 950cfm and all was well. I'm currently running a 1050 which it performing a tad better than the 950.

Now when I break in a cam on a new engine, I use an old set of headers, lol

Lesson learned.

It happens when you try and squeeze every bit of power out of an engine and have an under rated cfm carb.

Big block engines like two things, air and fuel, lol

We are hung up with parts availability on the engine. Transmission is clear coated and the machine shop doing my engine has my alternator ready for final assembly. He has tools he made decades ago to deal with the bearing and diodes quickly and easily.

Another stunning chrome job by Capital Metal Finishing in Tucson. Paired with Detroit muscle technology inserts all I need to do is paint middle strip black and put it together. $220 to rechrome the 5 pieces here, lighter cap, ashtray, ashtray cover, main cover, console compartment door

Jim, what kind of shape were they in when you sent them?

I have to get my tail panel and tail lights re-chromed. Probably the console and shifter cover as well.

Very scratched up a few rust dimples but not terrible. On the convertible trim around the windshield was extremely pitted if you look at it in the sun just right you can still see if you pits in the Chrome but for the most part you can’t tell

This has been sitting on the bench for months ready to be cleaned up and put back together finally got the ambition this afternoon. Another RV2 brought back from the grave. New crank bearing, crank surfaces polished new old stock pistons and rods new valve plates from a O’Reillys rebuild that I scavenge for parts, new gaskets O-rings, NOS front seal. It’s getting really hard to find parts and gaskets for these all things now with the supply chain issues. Luckily I’ve been gathering up new old stock over the last few years. Maybe tomorrow I’ll mix up some black Southern Polyurathanes Epoxy and shoot some of remaining piece parts. Next up is the distributor, starter and put the alternator back together.

It’s nice the 66 four-door that I stripped the air conditioning out of had the original compressor with this original September 1965 tag on it pretty cool

Alternator needs a new capacitor somehow I missed the new kits don’t include that from ASP. The distributor did not order the FPO plate that comes with the new springs so I have to order that. I did get the starter done but realized that this is a 1.8 hp starter not the normal small block 1.5 hp.
Got a few things painted red in anticipation of the return of the 360/273 Super Commando.
