Hey guys,
I'm restoring a '67 Camaro for a customer and I'm about to replace the driver quarter. The car comes to me from a previous shop that sheet metal screwed and Bondo'd skins. It's an original California 67 car.
I've replaced quarters before but this is the first time I've noticed a couple differences from original metal and would like some more experienced opinions before I proceed.
I noticed the window felt has extra bracing on the original vs. The AMD reproduction. I plan on transferring that over to the new metal.
The section right by the decklid hinge has a piece spot welder to it and then filled with a type of NVH. I'm guessing this was to reduce flex in that area. I plan on using my compression spot welder and transferring the piece and filling the area between with 3M 4274 after epoxy.
Finally there is a brace behind the striker. I've seen it on convertibles but not on coupes. The previous shop chopped the drivers side and completely removed the passenger side. Does this brace get welded to the striker plate area because it's completely loose. I plan on fixing the poor butt weld in the middle on the driver side and making a new one for passenger.
Pics below.
Thanks for the help.
