1968 GMC

The 180 is not required or probably even necessary. I would do it just to make the scratches a little shallower, but that is just me. Just a quick scuff or light blocking. After epoxy, I wait at least overnight before 2K, (24 hrs or more is ideal) but you have up to 7 days before it needs to be scuffed and more epoxy applied. If you do a light blocking it will show any spots that may need more filler, like a low spot or pinholes. Much better to fix it before you spray 2K.

I'm much happier with everything now that I've got a total of 3 coats of full strength epoxy on. I made a huge mess when I put about 12 oz of epoxy in the cup and didn't attach it correctly (using DeKups system) and went to shake it after attaching to the gun and the cup hit the floor and splashed up the wall of the paint booth and all over the floor. I got lucky though and only got one drop on the back of the cab.

At this point I don't see a need to do any 2K since everything looks so flat and smooth. I just need to sand out the craters and sand scratches, but I'm not sure yet what grit to start with. I should be able to seal, base, and clear next weekend which is exciting.

Thanks to everyone on the forum for the advice.

Looking good.

I can relate. I once forgot to put the inner lid on. Had paint running down the gun.

Sprint talked some sense into me and I blocked the epoxy. I actually got pretty aggressive with it as I had 3 coats on it and everything blocked down really well, but I did have a few spots on the roof that needed more filler and one door had a slight wave to it. I now have 2 coats high build on everything. I don't think I'll have time to get to base/clear this weekend, but should be able to the next weekend. Don't worry, I wiped everything down after taking these pictures.

You guys are making me want to start another truck project. I had a completely different color in mind, but between you and Sprint, I have a feeling I'll be thinking long and hard about blue!

You can't go wrong with blue on these trucks! I'm getting basecoat mixed today. I'm tempted to paint the doors and fenders this weekend, but I feel like I should wait until I have everything ready so I can spray it all at once next weekend.

I wish I would have discovered SPI products sooner. I was wet sanding a fender last night with 600 and was amazed at how easy it was. The high build laid down nice and flat and it was not hard to sand. I am encouraged at how easy sanding will be and am hopeful that I can paint everything on Saturday. It's not supposed to be as warm next week so I want to take advantage of the forecasted weather for Saturday.

I give you Voodoo Blue. Everything went well Saturday - the weather was warm, sanding went well, and sealer, base, clear all laid down well. I got group of runs on one lower fender corner and touched one of the doors on the inside with my suit, but other than that it looks awesome. The pictures just don't do it justice, it's louder than it looks. Saturday was the last day of 80s temps that we will have until spring, so I am relieved that all these parts are painted now. Getting all the surfaces of the cab was a workout though - I was sore yesterday.

Next steps - brakes, exhaust, fuel tank, fuel lines. Then I can set these parts on the frame.

Sweet, I hate painting the inner roof on those, hard to get something to "lay down" upside down!

Yes it is. I think it came out pretty good, I don't plan on sanding or buffing it. The upper corners were hard too, I got a little orange peel there but it doesn't bother me.

Looks good. What was the factory application for that blue? Im curious to see how your cowl vent guard looks painted the same color, I hadn't thought about doing that, but it seems like a good idea.

Oh come on, wheres the fun in that, lol. Man that brings back nightmares just thinking about sanding and buffing mine. I did alot of sitting on a milk crate working over my head, I wouldn't recommend it.

The color is a Toyota color. It's on all of the late model FJ's but I didn't really notice it until they started putting it on the 4Runners, Tundras, and Tacomas. I think it was the fact that the FJ's have so much plastic and white on them whereas the other models are solid color and it really stands out. I thought it might look weird if I left the screens in black and I wanted them to blend in.

I have nightmares of sanding and buffing on other cars. I hate it haha. There's hardly any trash in it and really the only spots that I plan on sanding are the runs on the fender and the spot on the inside of the door where I touched it with my suit.
