According to the tech sheet, DBI doesn't require clear coat or activation. I'd like to know if I can activate it if I want to.

This should be a link to the tech sheet. Tech sheet says DBS can take 5% DX57, no mention of DBI?

Yes you can. It will have more sheen.though. You can then topcoat it with a flat or matte clear to offset that.
