My pops misalligned/squished oil filter cup o-ring changing his oil.
Spilled some, no bigge it'll burn off.
Smelled it on highway, let it burn off, engine locks up.
Pissed all the oil out, seized engine. Ouch. FYI.

I helped clear hood & headlights. Removed headlights, 4-5 nice wet coats. Best.

You guys with yellowed headlights- these were.

That is awefull, had no idea the leak would let oil shoot out.
My wife has same setup in their twin turbo engine v8, when i change filters and oil, i let that thing idle 4 or 5 mins and recheck drive a mile and recheck again.
Also i coat o-ring with a little wheel bearing grease.
I think its a lousy setup myself.

Funny he did run it to check for leaks. Next time hold 2000rpm for a minute.
Got a engine from boneyard, picked up a 2006 e350 from friend to drive.
I'm looking up oil now, m1 0-40 seems popular. I'm thinking 5-30 for flush & listen for noises.
8 qts. Needs oil psi light like drag race shift light.

Like the LS engines pure synthic is very important.
Also 0w40 or 5w40 mobil-1 will work great.
Flushing by some 15w40 desel oil
In non synthic run and watch oil pressure if ok add quart of trans fluid or engine flush and let idle for 15 to 30 mins and drain hot.
If engine had syn it it he could have saved it as should run 5 min or longer without oil due to syn creating a + charge.

Our sprinter van engines at work have a similar cartridge design up top, have only seen nuisance leaks out of em so far. They do have a low oil light that works at approx. 1 qt low.
As a young teenager, have done the old gasket still stuck to the block followed by the new gasket on filter thing on an aunts car, luckily got noticed on short in town drive. Lesson learned- people with money shouldn't use child labor:rolleyes::rolleyes:, and check for clean gasket free mounting surfaces & stretching O-rings.

I did same thing with a 454 oil filter gasket years back as not paying attention. Oil flew out as soon as started it, so no missing it.
Also on Mercedes that looks like a fram or champion made filter.
Not safe in mercedes as the one dealer right now has 2 under warrenty being denied coverage due to cheap filter coming apart.
Wix is great and i stock pile them for all my cars but the mann filter makes mercedes filters i finally found a mann in picture, notice the reinforcement much better than even the wix.

Wow thanks for filter element tip. Deny engine coverage due to filter coming apart? how fine is that print lol.
When (if) he gets boneyard engine in, 0-20w i'm thinking better flush, quick circulation & reveal bearing wear.
One benefit of element type is seeing (if your a nut like us) if there's metal in it.
Also- new regular screw on filters- i always take clean paper towel & twist it in threads once. You'll be stunned how much powderized metal from production is left in new filter threads. Every brand i ever tried. Try it.

The detergent package in a diesel oil
Will clean and suspend better, yes 15w base from a 5w base is is around 10 seconds going by memory.

Diesel detergent oil gotcha. I used a qt can of flush 20yrs ago in old caddy. Guessing I payed $3 for qt of kerosene. Came out black. Worked.
Benz shaft-mount roller rockers. Cracked that girdle, looks like bearings spun too. I'm just looking at pics sent to me. Carnage. Ouch.

edit- 30yrs ago for flush jeeze time flys

Wow, they go forever but very sensitive to good service and when they go its expensive.
Nice part about that engine there's a lot of them out there in totaled cars with low miles, just takes time to find. Also don't overlook buying a totaled one and pulling engine and selling parts off the donor car.
Easily get all money back and then some. Been there done that a number of times years ago.

Yes sir buying wreck if one has room & don't mind work's a great way to go.
Replacement engine already sitting on ground next to it.
This is when you learn how many of your friends got your back. Good to know once in a while.
My father never asks for a hand, shingled his roof & pulled bundles to 2nd floor by rope...after turning 80 : )
All good, driving 2006 e350 which will take this one's place worst comes to worst. e350 v8.
Need that to get to next red light faster.
