I am painting the jambs and the cowl on my GTO tomorrow and want to get the mixture for the sealer right. I am going to mix 4 parts of the white #6600-4 with one part epoxy primer activator #6700-4 and then add 1 part of urethane reducer #885.

The parts will be sanded with 400 grit then I will apply the sealer wait the recommended time and then spray the base. (SPI red). Then clearcoat it.

Can I sand the sealer before the base if there is junk in it. Or do I have to recoat it.

Thanks for your help.

The reduction is good and if you get trash in it you will need to wait 4hrs to over night to wetsand and then yes, paint over it.

I might be reading this wrong, but epoxy gets mixed 1:1, not 4:1.

You may be right. I am a little confused now, which is it.

epoxy as a sealer is 1:1 then reduce it 1/2 to 1 part. the spi 2k urethane sealer is 4:1 - 4:1:1 as a primer and 4:1:1 - 4:1:2 as a sealer

I recently talked to barry about this very thing, he said mix it 1:1 then add 25% reducer as a starting point 16oz epoxy,16oz activator,= 32 oz then 8oz reducer.. It sprayed perfect at that mix, so i didnt thin it out anymore, maybe next time.

sof, thats a half part so its fine. gotts remember that paint and activator ratio are always the same and should never be changed. making something a sealer is just the amount of reduction.

his title stated 2k sealer which is 4-1-1 or 4-1-2

Epoxy is not 2k

it mixes 1-1 and can be reduced some if needed.

do not mix epoxy activator with the 2k primer/sealer.

hope this helps Travis.

Actually I ordered more epoxy primer today and spoke to Andy and I will just use that with no sealer.

Although epoxy IS technically 2K, we should avoid referring to it that way in order to avoid just this sort of confusion. Much better to just say "epoxy as sealer" if that is what will be used, where "2K sealer" is normally reserved for the urethane variety. The part numbers given in the OP indicate epoxy product.
