3 stage whites

Did a Ford 3 stage white blend. Standox helpline said it was the green variant. Came out with a green hue that was obvious. Would a couple more midcoats (did 2) change that and blend better? I know a spray out is the best way but does the midcoat change the shade any? Redoing tomorrow. I hope this makes sense!

What they say isn't always what it is. I always do a sprayout with the groundcoat, then mask it so I can see what one, two and three coats of midcoat look like. Then I clear it with actual urethane clear. It's time consuming, but now I have like six notebooks full of sprayouts as reference. More mid will slightly darken the face but the biggest effect will be on the flop. If it's too green, nothing is going to change that but a less green formula.

Hard to tell what the issue is from your description. Generally the more or less coats you spray of midcoat will make it lighter or darker independent of the shade. One coat...light, two coats.....matching OEM, three coats....darker than OEM. Two is all you need to match OEM so spraying a third won't really help. What could help is using a blender and shooting your second coat with it, and then shooting an additionally diluted third and carrying it farther out in both directions.

I see Crash beat me to it...

And me :) If the base doesn't match pretty close, it won't look right. Blending of the base is the critical step. Needs to look almost invisible before midcoat.

I was afraid that there wasn't an easy solution. Oh well, live and learn, right?
Crash, you're absolutely right!
Thanks for the input guys.
