A woman's project: 1968 Mustang Fastback Eleanor

The wiring for the lighting (this car has alot!) is all routed and connected. We wanted as few wires showing as possible so we ran them all underneath the fenders and used braided loom on everything. The fender bolts made perfect holders for the cable clamps.

The flexible lines for the A/C condenser are all installed and looking pretty. The horns are mounted and wired.

We also installed the electric fan harness under the passenger fender. The A/C switch and compressor trigger wires for the FAST system were routed through this bundle. The FAST system is pretty cool because there are Fan controls (1 and 2) which you can set temperature to turn the fans on instead of having a designated temperature switch just for the fans. The A/C input wire connects to the compressor and tells the system that the compressor is running and in turn, increases engine RPM and turns the fans on.

Thanks, guys. Yes we will look into all the car seat stuff soon. Last night we put the nose back on the car for the millionth time, tightened all the bolts, and tried the lights! It's hard to get a picture of how they look, but they look so awesome. Today we plan to finish installing the grilles, tie up some loose ends, and start prepping to fire the engine. It's getting real.

Headlights and running lights on...again it's hard to capture with a picture.

March 5th, 2017. The day she came back from the dead. Who knows the last time she's seen the road. Some of you have been on this journey with me from the beginning. It's been long. But, that's nothing unusual to the hobby. Thanks for all the encouragement along the way. This car has taught us so much more than just how to build a car. It's taught us patience, endurance, perseverance, all those words that a challenging experience brings to the soul. We brought a car back from the dead that never existed. She fought us tooth and nail every step of the way. There were lulls during the build, times when motivation wasn't there. Times that if we had to modifying something because something else was modified, which caused the next 5 things to be modified, someone was going to get hurt. Or if we had to spend money on things that we had already purchased because someone told us it would work but it didn't work. Speaking of which, does anyone need an oil pan? I'm pretty sure we went through 3 until we found one that worked. Or the multiple spindles for the front suspension. Or how bout 2 motors. 2 transmissions. Oh, the list goes on! lol. At the end of the day, the quote that summarizes this car is.. "You've gotta be half stupid to build this car, but half smart to figure it out." But we did it. And there she is. There's Eleanor.

A few small details left to do in the engine bay, but for the most part, here she is!

We are waiting for a few small parts to come in then we can finish up installing the door glass and door panels.

Looks great!! I know it has been a long road but well worth it when you are behind the wheel and enjoying your beautiful car.

Those of you on Facebook have seen this, but I realize many of you are not on Facebook.

We were asked in September by Summit Racing to bring Eleanor to a studio and have pictures taken for the car to be used as the March/April gatefold feature car. We actually denied them twice (just due to the general craziness of our lives with 2 little boys, work, life, etc.) but they were persistent and we are glad we accepted. It was a great experience.

A big hats off to Brian and Rusty Gillis. They treated us so well and took care of this car, knowing the struggles we had and with their help, overcame. Everyone involved in the production side said they had never seen a car with such a finish as this one. We just kept saying, that's Rusty Gillis and SPI!!

Wondered what ever happened to you and the car. Glad to see it came together so nicely for you. Hopefully we'll see ya at Summit racing one of these days.
