adhesion problem with diamont base?

I am able to pick my diamont base off with my finger.

So when I have done. Sand to bare metal with 80 grit. Sprayed 2 coats of spi black epoxy. Sat for a few months and decided on going from midnight blue to a pale yellow. Sanded primer with 180 grit. Spray 2 coats of spi white. Let sit for a month. Wet sanded with 600 grit. Spray spi epoxy 1:1:1 let it sit 2 hours. The spi reducer i used was opened 2 years ago. Spray diamont base 2:1 with medium reducer. Top coated with universal clear with slow reducer 1:1. Second coat of clear bug flew in. I waited a little over an hour and when I tried to sand him out with 1200 grit the base came up. I wait a week to sand down. After I sanded through the clear the base is coming off in clumps. I am able to use my nail and pull up more.
What am I doing wrong that there is no chemical adhesion?
Thanks
Chris

Post some pictures.

In clumps?

Is the base lifting the sealer? Or is the sealer still intact?

Is the clear and base coming off with finger nail test?

I am currently sanding down to the primer with 80 grit to start over, so these picture of what I am doing currently. Not sure if you can tell from the pictures but base is coming off in clumbs. As soon as I get break through the clear the base comes off. Here is a picture before nail scratch and after nail scratch, hopefully you can see the flaking of the base. The sealer is still intact.
I did do a thin transparent single layer of sealer, could that have been the problem? before nail.jpg

Sounds like the solvents in the base got trap under the clear. Try using clear activator in the base.

I forgot to put time on base coat. I let the base sit for 4 hours before apply universal clear.
With Diamont I thought you only needed to use reducer. I have most of the car done this way. Should I be concerned that the paint will fail?

Forgot to put time on base??

If your talking about activating the base it's not required. But makes a stronger base .

Would spraying 2 coats of reduced epoxy, let it sit 12 hours. Then try to shoot the base a little lighter help with adhesion? Thanks for all the comments so far.

A good tes for solvent trappage is where you break through and can peel, let set over night and see is now it has adheision in that spot.

I used diamont for about 3 years. Always sprayed it mixed 1:1. Never had an issue. Never liked 2:1 mix recommendation they came out with. Too much chance for solvent trapping.

Diamont is a decent paint. Been spraying their basecoat for more than ten years, with no issues. Prep is key with any of the paints. I mix Diamont as recommended 2:1. Body shop use daily and all has worked out for me. I don't believe your adhesion issue is the Diamont itself.
