Another use for water base W/G remover

We took on the job of cleaning up my friends classic boat...didn't want to mess with it, but you know....friends....this boat was heavily oxidized fiberglass. Normal procedure around here is to colorsand the old gel coat with abralon 2000 and then 4000 foam discs by hand and da to remove the oxidation before buffing. On a whim I wetted a disc with SPI W/G...the oxidation rolled off the surface twice as fast in almost a paste!!!!...don't know what the deal was, but saved us a bunch of time...Excellent

I use the 700 and 710 for all kinds of stuff. Mostly because I keep it in a spray bottle and it's convenient.

Just the other day, I used 700 to remove the old wax on my skis prior to re-waxing.

I use the 710 on grease air hoses and extension cords. I spray it on a rag and then wipe the length of the cord/hose before putting it away after a greasy job. I also use it to clean of gasket mating surfaces.

And it works great cleaniing kitchen cabinet surface and oily hand prints on doors and such too!

I made the mistake 10 years ago showing my wife how good the 700 will clean the stainless steel sink in kitchen. SO guess what I do every Saturday?

I had to get another spray bottle for my wife to keep
in the kitchen, it works great on greasy stuff.

i almost completely quit using the 710 now and almost exclusively use 700.....sort of. i find both the 700 and 710 to work great. used to use 710 for grease or initial cleaning and 700 for cleanup. i have always really liked the sikkens anti static wipe and rm's 903 even better than the 700 though. both rm and sik are the same thing and seem to be just like the 700 but much stronger. both will bite into base and do the same job that 710 and 700 does together but in one shot. problem is its $80+ a gallon...f that. my trick for the past year now is i take a new gallon of 700, remove 13oz of it and replace it with slow reducer. thats about a 10:1 mix. what i difference it makes. works as well or even better than the rm stuff. it wakes up the 700 so much its not even funny. for those of you that use the 700 alot, give this a try. night and day diffference and you will almost drop the use of the 710 except for real greasy items.

Interesting!!!!
Not sure why you are doing this but one thing to look at is slow has lots of tail solvents and normally do not clean as good, fast reducer would be a much better cleaner, you might want to try?

thanks barry, have never used the fast, always the slow but i'll give it a try. i actually do it because, and dont take this the wrong way but i always felt the 700 was a little weak or too much water in it. its a good product and does clean ok and i used it out of the jug for years. once i tried the rm and sikkens stuff, which is actually made by henkle, it was a night and day difference. theirs i dont think has much water in it or atleast doesnt seem to. its much stronger and cleans better. the little addition of the reducer to yours gives it just enough kick to make it as good or better than the henkle product. it will take off oil, grease, adhesive and leave the part alot cleaner with less effort. a good example is on a black or dark paintjob that you will be clearing twice and sanding between. on an occasion when done, in the sun i have found finger prints or cloudy areas from sanding dust trapped between clear layers that didnt come completely off and i know i wiped the area to death. i have basically eliminated that with this change. i also use it to wipe down all my sanded primer before base. it just takes a real good product and makes it better imo. i also make a weaker version as well for wiping down airbrush work or basecoat directly. i use the zep glass cleaner concentrate from home depot. i mix 4 parts rts glass cleaner with 1 part 700. gives the glass cleaner a little extra kick to make that work better. in the end that is very similar to hok's kc-20.

Going to 860 you should be able to cut the reducer in half compared to what you are doing now.

Note on cutting strength, something like the waterborne is formulated to do certain things well and its a fine line when making as to what it will and won't cut.
About 8 years ago we actually cut the strength about 8.5%.
Priority is cleaning bare metals but because people use it all the way through the job, some weak base coats were an issue and that was the most it could be changed and yet do the job it was intended for on bare metal.

Yes in a perfect world raw metal or sanded primer would be cleaned with 710 and then 700 and a lot of shops do this but it is a lot to ask.

Yeah i have about 10 different cleaners in the shop of all different strengths to get off exactly what i want to without harming something else. Didnt mean to make it sound like the 700 wasnt good. I love the stuff but for cleaning primer or sanded clear the addition if the reducer just makes it awesome and perfect strength for 90% of the cleaning in the shop. Stuff that it wasnt great at getting off or fully clean before it now does it with ease. Cant wipe down base with it for sure. Ill try the fast red next time and see if it works better.
