base lifted

I had a abs grille that was peeling.I sanded almost all the paint off. Some parts of it feathered good so after a good cleaning I sealed with epoxy. I waited one hour then laid down 3 coats of spi base waiting 1 hr. between coats. I had a small spot lift that has to be repaired. If I had some waterborne primer I would sand then shoot some over the area then proceed.I am not wanting to buy any so how would you attack the problem? Thanks

The original paint pulled in solvent and wrinkled the epoxy, I bet the original paint was lacquer. I'd feather it back and dust on some color lightly with good flash time untill it's covered and let it set for a good while before clear. ABS is also soluable so anytime you start stacking soluable products and non soluable products it makes for a chance of problems. I've seen people apply basecoat to a bare ABS grill so fast and wet without enough flash time that all the teeth sagged/melted.

Skip the sealer step and just dust on some light coats of color with plenty of flash time, lightly sand in between coats with 1000 if needed, adhesion will be fine. Once it's all colored let it set for a few hours and spray your clear
