BED LINER REMOVAL AND FRAME QUESTION

I was rear ended 3 weeks ago in my 1996 f 150 that I had completely rebuilt and sprayed with bed liner 3 years ago, I can either put a new frame from the cab back or go all the way with a totally new frame but for what I use the truck for I am leaning toward the cab back section to do. I will be putting on a new bed and such so I want to remove the bed liner and use base and clear. How should I go about removing the bed liner on the cab area and do I need to go back down to original paint? I really appreciate you guys helping me out.

If you aren't going to go back with bedliner then you'll need to get it off.

Before you cut your frame it's important that you do some measuring and verify that you don't have any "diamond" in the frame. If you do and cut it and weld in a new section, you will never get it straight and the wheels to align. Your frame needs to be pulled enough so that the front section is correct before you section and weld in the new section. Unless it was a very hard hit I would imagine that if it's pulled by someone competent you could either get by with a short rear section or save it completely. Don't rush into this without getting it looked at by someone who is competent with frame work.

I had a long time customer that bought a new truck and had a bedliner installed. It never dried and the installer had to remove it. They used an air chisel and made holes through the metal, everywhere. The installer wanted me to fix it, and I told him he owed the customer a new bed. He didn't like my estimate :) I would try what Chris suggested. Maybe cut a 1 foot square with a utility knife and try it on that area to see how it worked. I would think at the right temperature it would come off with a putty knife.
