Bedliner on Mower Deck

Has anyone ever tried putting SPI bed liner on the underside of a mower deck?

I have a Country Clipper Zeton Boss with a 72" deck. As with nearly all equipment I've seen, insufficient surface prep has lead to premature failure of the powder coating under the deck. I'd like to keep this mower for a long time and I would rather sandblast and paint now rather than cut and weld later. Should I stop with a few coats of epoxy, or would bed liner offer better wear resistance and protection?
 
I wonder how easy it would be to clean the underside of the deck off with the texture of the bedliner? Other than that, im thinking even better protection than the epoxy alone!
 
I would do four coats of epoxy and then leave in full sun for a week-(epoxy facing the sun)

Bed liner would not be good there.
 
Thank you BK and Barry. I don't like spraying bed liner much anyway, so you don't have to twist my arm too much to convince me. :)
 
There's a lot of abrasives and moisture spinning around in those decks-bad environment for sure. And the poor prep and products used on it from the factory doesn't help. I bet 4 coats of epoxy on a properly cleaned and blasted surface will last 10X what the oem did.
 
I would agree with the epoxy but what about adding a few coats of single stage or clear over it for a smoother finish?? Could be over kill but I bet it would clean up really well with a finish like that..
Unfortunately it would probably chip up from stuff hitting it.. Well that is if you mow you're sticks and gravel driveway like I do with mine.. lol.
 
I did my simplicity mower probably 5 years ago. Blasted the bottom of the deck, did 3 coats epoxy and 2 coats Dupont Emron over it. I can say I checked everything earlier this week getting the mower ready for the season and it still looks good. I don't maintain that stuff either. Just oil and grease and sharpen the blades once a year. I do scrape the clumps off at the end of the season though.

My mower is also a brush hog at times as I hate mowing and picking up sticks even more. In my vast hands on experience I've found that spinning metal blades pick up the sticks better than my back.

Why would bedliner be bad?
 
I am curious why Barry recommended against the bedliner myself. However, I have learned enough from Barry to know that I should just do what he says. Needless to say, my deck is currently laying upside down in my driveway with 4 coats of epoxy on it :encouragement: Hopefully Barry can give us a lesson on SPI Bedliner.
 
I think the texture of the bedliner would be more likely to hold debris. I would assume that would be his logic.

A couple of reasons it is not good here, first it will hold heat and goodbye quill bearings.
Second, it is too thick and if chips or for any reason water gets behind it, it will not get out and best case the bedliner will just come off in sheets or worst case deck will gain a rust hole.
Third, if you spray the bedliner thin to avoid these problems, you will lose all strength.
The epoxy just wins hands down.
