I’ve been using the 3M perfect it three step buffing system for a few years on stuff I’ve painted. It has worked well but mostly just daily driver stuff. Step one wool, step two black waffle pad, step three blue pad.

Now I’m preparing to buff out my car show quality car. After reading on here I see a lot of different compounds, pads etc.like Chemical Guys and Meguiars.
What would you guys recommend? I plan on finishing out to at least trizact 5000 might try trizact 8000. Haven’t tried it yet.

I've just switched from 3M "Perfect-It" No. 1 for cutting to Meguiars M-100.
The 3M cuts faster but the Meguiars is almost as fast and is a lot cheaper, but most of all,
the Meguiars is so much easier to clean up, the 3M spatter sets up like concrete if you don't get it off right away.

Agree about the spatter. Is a wool pad and cutting compound necessary with trizact 8000? I know they have a system that’s like one step. Just wondering if I finish up with 8000 what’s a good starting point with other compounds?
any major difference in the 3m pads I’m using over others?

I cut with 1000, 1500 and 2000.
From there it's a twisted wool pad and Meguiars M-100.
To be honest there's times when that's all that is necessary. For show car jobs I will follow up with a Lake Country CCS white foam pad with Chemical Guys V-36 (IIRC) and then a CCS Black pad with Menzerna FF3800.
All with a rotary buffer.

I too switched to M-100 and am happy with the results I have gotten, I use a Presta wool cutting pad followed by Presta step 2 yellow and then 3M blue pad to polish on out.

I have a 3m wool pad, 3m black waffle, and 3m blue waffle. Would like to get great results on this job. Do you guys order the M-100 or is it available locally?

What about pads? Are some superior than what I’m using? I see chemical guys has a pad conditioner is it beneficial?

i think I’m going to order the pad conditioner and some m-100. Any other recommendations?
