Best gun for Primer filler / sealer & Epoxy Primer?

What gun gives the best results for Primer filler, Primer Sealer and Epoxy Primer?

I have read some review and watched YouTube videos that say the Sata 100 B F RP is good , and so to the Iwata W400 Bellaria.
Sata has on their webstie the 1500 Solv recommended for Primer.

Is there any advantage of going with the 1500 Solv over the 100 B F RP?
Anyone tried both the W400 Bellaria and the Sata Primer guns ?

Primer filler will take a larger tip than sealer or epoxy.

I am looking into a new gun just for build and polyester primers with a 2.0 tip. The one I have now is an old Astro Pneumatic EVO-4018 with a 1.8 tip but they no longer sell or support that gun.

The sealer and Epoxy primer generally spray best through a 1.4 tip IMHO.

If I get the W400 Bellaria, what tip size should I get?
What tip size for the Sata 100 BF RP or the 1500 Solv?

I've read that Sata tip size does not correlate to the number, so a 1.3 tip is not 1.3mm, that it is actually larger than 1.3mm. Is this true?

the sata 100b is a straight up primer gun. i have been using one for years. a 100b hvlp with a 1.9 is a great gun for primer. low overspray. the solv is a base/sealer gun, not primer. you would get that with a 1.3-1.4 for your base or epoxy. as for tip size, the tips are what they say they are but you have to remember that paint is sucked out of the nozzle. it doesnt just flow out. there is a venturi effect at the nozzle tip so how much fluid a gun flow depends on how strong the suction is that it creates. sata sucks the paint out faster than iwata, this is why satas always seem to be faster than an iwata for an equivalent tip size.

coronet, get yourself a sata 100b-p. it is their poly primer gun. great gun. i use mine all the time. good for polyprimer, spi 2k sealer unreduced and even the hb primer if you choke it down a little. tip is 2.5.

I use an LPH400 for sealer(epoxy) and straight epoxy. It lays it down nice for both.
LPH400 sprayed straight black epoxy.

I use this gun for Turbo and the Evercoat high build primers (slicksand, feather fill, and their Superbuild 4:1)
I drilled the tip out so now its at least 2.5mm. If those primers are getting near the end of the spray window as far as time, a bigger tip is always better.

Green gun sprayed Slicksand this morning.

Believe it or not, I use a 1.3 Tekna pro lite for turbo primer on smaller spots or single panels. I would have never guessed it would spray it, but you have good control and comes out slick as glass. If I'm spraying larger panels or multiple panels, I use the Northern Tools green gun with a 2.3 choked down a little. Also use it for polyester. For the epoxy, the Tekna 1.3 or Iwata LPH400 with a 1.4 both work great.

Check Iwata USA page on Instagram and they are coming out with a dedicated W-400 primer/sealer gun, it has a red ring on the air nozzle.

I have a SATA 1500 Solv RP 1.3 and use it for base but also with 2K sealer and epoxy, works great for that. I have the SATA 100 b RP 1.8 for primer and works great for the 2K primers.

I’ve read some ppl prefer the devilbiss Tekna primer gun, the one with a gray body, over the SATA primer gun but I’ve never had a chance to try one to find out for myself how good it works.

Between the Sata 100 BF Hvlp and the 100 BF RP, which is ideal for Primer filler and sealer?

I know I am overly frugal and if you are going to be running a production shop, an expensive gun for primer may make sense. The longevity may pay for itself.

With that said, the primer you shoot will be blocked and will not have to lay like base clear. I use a Devilbiss FLG4 for primer. Shine uses a Vapor. Many of the other guys will have delegated an older gun they have replaced to do primer work. What is it that you are trying to accomplish that motivates you to spend this kind of money on a primer gun?

John

BTW, I don't particularly like the FLG4 and am not recommending it but it works. It is an air hog but for primer it is fine. If I needed another Primer gun, I would probably try one of the Vapors Shine has always liked but if I was in a hurry to get something done I would not hesitate to grab one of the famous ( infamous? :) ) purple guns.

speaking for myself here....i buy good primer guns. they arent terribly expensive like a 5000 or 5500 but far more than a vaper. i have had my 100b for maybe 9-10 years. got it when it first came out. so for that amount of time i get so shoot primer with a really nice gun which has probably saved me the cost difference by primer that didnt go out the booth exhaust. if i was doing 1 car a year or just pulling the primer gun out once a month to do something small then i probably wouldnt go for the expensive gun. for something i use all the time though, i never buy the cheap tool. its how i make a living. that 100b owes me nothing after all this time and when a new one gets released i can sell the old one for about 1/2 what i bought it for simply because its a sata.

I totally see that for you guys that are using it daily. After 9-10 years, I am sure the savings in material has more than paid for the gun.

I've never used the 100 BF HVLP. Most primers require a much bigger tip size than sealers, which means ideally you'd end up with two separate guns anyway. Unless you enjoy using the same gun and just changing nozzles-needles which would be a PITA and not that cheaper than two guns.

I agree with all the posts above, and the only reason I use the Tekna for primer is a rep gave it to me for that reason. I've used it almost every day for 6 yrs. I don't think I could make myself pay 500+ for a primer gun, but they are nice. As for the final coats of epoxy or sealer, a nice gun just sprays slicker, leaving less work before base. I've sprayed small spots of turbo primer with a cheap 1.0 touch up gun, also. Works great.

I was giving a new TPC Global primer gun w/ 2.0 as a gift. Not to bad have to choke it down for 2K. Good for the price.

For Primer filler: What tip size is preferable for a Sata 100 BF RP and for the Iwata w400 Bellaria?
What about tip size for Primer Sealer and Epoxy primer?

You really don't need an expensive primer gun. 90% of the primer is going to be sanded off. Spend the money on top quality base/clear gun.

the 100b in an rp is prob a 1.8 while the hvlp is a 1.9. no idea on the iwata but anything right around the 1.8-2.0 is typical primer gun tip size from most mfg. the spi epoxy primer will get sprayed with a 1.4 through your regular basecoat gun. most sealers will be the same. spi primer/sealer is different and depends on what you are using it for and how much you reduce it. as a sealer though a 1.4 is good.
