booth curtain..

Good to hear. I have hope then. That's my biggest complaint right now is if I spray I'm wrapping up the whole garage. I need to cut off a bay with a curtain to contain the overspray.

I painted one project and polished out another at the same time.....I almost felt productive!

OJ, how much taller is the curtain than the garage? My ceiling ranges from 10'2.5" to 10'6.5" over 19 feet, I know garage floors are pitched by code, but this floor is seriously sloped leading to things wanting to roll out the door, but that's another story.

If I go with Strip curtains, how far is it from the track to the top of the curtain? Do I specify 10' 6" and be done with it?

Not OJ, but I'll jump in.
I ordered from strip curtains and am really happy.
I measured from floor to ceiling and gave them the specs. Called and walked through it with sales rep and he was really helpful.
Both my floor and ceiling slope about 1 foot total and they cut it perfectly.
There is a track on the ceiling that hangs from threaded rod, so you can dial it in. I have about a 3 inch gap at the top to let air draw in while exhaust fans pull air out the overhead door.

I think when I ordered mine I added like 2" to the total length from the floor to where it would hang.

Dean, so your curtain does not quite hit the floor?

OJ, yours is a little long so the bottom is against the floor?

I do need to let some air in because the fans will be pulling from the curtained area, with the inlet air to the building on the other side.

Yes, I wanted mine that way to help seal more from the other side. My air comes in from fans in the ceiling so im not pulling or pushing to or from the other side.

There are companies that offer curtains that have filter holders in them.

Mine touches the floor. Have about a 3 inch gap at the top. I wanted air to come in from the top.
My exhaust fans sit on the floor and I pull the overhead door down on top of them when I'm spraying.
The idea is to have the air come in above the curtain and then flow down and out.
I didn't want the air coming in at the bottom as it could move dust/dirt from the floor and I wanted a down draft to move overspray out.
I open a sliding window on the other side of the shop to let fresh air in and put some furnace filters in the opening to keep out dust, bugs etc.
It works pretty good.

Still happy with the curtain oj? I need to order soon. Was gonna go with goffs initially but these cheaper. Have you always had a positive “booth”? Have you ever tried it with just the exhaust fan? I dont plan on having an intake fan just curious.

I have an exhaust fan also so its really not a positive or negative. It may be a slight negative pressure. I like the intake fans as I can control where "most" of the air comes from. The only thing I am going to change is I am going to cut some openings in the ductwork down the trunk and add some more filters. I think the fans are a little choked down now that I reduced it to half the opening size.

I ran just with an exhaust fan for years at my old house. Only downfall IMO was that when you just pull air in, it will pull from anywhere. My setup is far from perfect, but i have definitely done some really clean jobs here. Originally when I built this shop i was just going to modify the windows in the door to basically flip down and have filters in them for the incoming air. I ended up not wanting to mess with brand new doors. Had I planned this all correctly, the ductwork would have been above the ceiling.

As far as the curtain. I absolutely love it. I may need to take it down in the spring and power wash it!

The other thing I dig about having this is its 85 degrees on the one side of the curtain while the epoxy sits for a few days and 70 on the other while I sand. The paint area I have my tube heater right above it.

9'6' tall. I didnt go all the way to the ceiling. I built a little frame that the the rail bolts too. I think the positive pressure help keep dust down, although, who knows. In the end its still a garage! I used to get air turbulence in areas of this garage if that makes any sense. I'm hoping now that the booth area is a rectangle shape it will help stop that from happening. IM excited to spray something. later this week.

Here is the rail

My strip curtains arrived months ago, and I finally started putting them up. When I was a model building kid, I'd come home from the store tear open the package immediately, then lose half the parts before I started the build.

Now I open the boxes as I go. So I took the tracks out without opening the hardware box, and it's been so long since I ordered that I forgot about all the hardware, and just screwed the first track on to the ceiling through the drywall into a joist, before I opened the box and saw the nice plates with the clamps mount they included.

These tracks are so thick, I don't think they'll bend, and the hardware I used is low profile so it won't hit the rollers, But I'm still wondering if I should take the direct bolts out, bolt the supplied plates to the ceiling and use the supplied clamps?

When I installed mine there were lots of left over parts. I think they include hardware to accommodate many different scenarios.
I think you are going to be fine. And if you put the plates on, the holes may be too wide to be able to screw into the joist.
The key thing is that it is sturdy and the tracks roll easily. If you've got that, you are good to go.

I think your way will work ok, with the hole layout on those brackets, you'd have to add blocking above the drywall to mount them.
I've hung hundreds of curtain tracks in medical facilities without any sort of brackets like you have. Now if it was a heavy 20' tall curtain I think the brackets would be necessary.

Here are the brackets installed.
