Brake dust

Not letting it get too built up helps, but just doesn't seem to happen for many of us in our long days. I agree with simple green as a good option.

I never tried simple green. Will grab me a bottle next time. The Eagle1 all wheel cleaner (i meant) does best outta any wheel cleaner i've tried when someone used up mine & replaced it with other brand.

30yrs ago they made 2 step hydroflouric? acid/neutralizer for chrome spokes. You'd watch the rust disappear in seconds, burned skin too. Also learned that's the acid used for glass etching. Back in the day car wash sprayed my spokes (and windshield on windy day) & etched glass in spots.

bleach white is great. its sodium hydroxide which is the same as the zep purple industrial cleaner and i am almost positive its the same as the eagle 1 stuff mentioned above. only difference is you can get it in a 5 gal jug for about $38. bleach white and eagle one you just paying an arm and a leg for 1 spray bottle of it.

I remember using Bleche White on whitewalls and raised white letters with a red scotchbrite. Really made them pop:D

I always used the blech-wite and a stiff brush, but before that I think it was just a SOS pad, which was also good for removing the rust stains from Chrome bumpers!
Along the same lines, (in the 70's and 80's) Dad would buy me really fine steel wool to remove water spots from the windshield/glass.

Over at the detailing forums, they talk about "rail dust" , "brake dust" and other forms of iron fallout getting into the cars paint and causing damage.
Apparently this it what causes the tiny orange specs to develop on white cars. They'll use among other things, Iron-X by CARPRO to remove it.
I tried it on a white work truck and it seemed to work really well.

Belive it or not i never tried bleach bleche white & drove caddies (still do) since late 80's :)
For iron stains on ground i use iron out granuals. Probably works on paint rust stains but test 1st cause it bleaches fabric quick if mixed strong.
Now those wheels aae- how's them brake pads?

I use bleach white for parts of the old ass single stage white paint on my sprinter van. Just ran out of my old Wesley's refill container, so if zep purple will do the same, sounds great. Amazing how bad you get price raped on some consumer sized schtuff.

Exact same stuff. You cant tell the difference

I use it in my pressure washer on the house too. Not caustic like Purple power is.

after trying to wash a motorhome( aluminum shell) that sat for a long time, i stopped after one small section. the dishsoap wasnt cutting through all of the crud.
sprayed on simple green with an adjustable hose end sprayer used for lawn chemicals. think i set it at 2 tablespoons. kept it wet for 10 minutes, used a foamhead mop to do a little scrubbing. the crud rolled right off when rinsing. i was really impressed that there wasnt any remianing crud or residue. sold me on simple green. i use it for a LOT now.

Didn't see the zep purple in close range to me, grabbed some purple power from advance auto. 32 oz spray was 5 bucks. gal was around 10 , 16 for 2 1/2 gal, & 28 for the 5 gal. Not sure if it's less concentrated than the zep or not, but gave it a try on my sprinter van. Seems just like bleach white with a hint of purple. ;)
Let me rephrase;;;;; thanks again Jim.
