Can I get away without scuffing this?

Hi All,
Going to paint a leftover grill for some temporary use until I do SS grill. The grill is similar to the one in the picture, with tons of tiny lil plastic spots... if I do traditional sand/blast/etc on the rest, can I get by with just spraying adhesion promoter on the small stuff and then epoxying?

If not, I'll probably just wait until I do the SS swap...but I'm thinking if I do a good enough job then I can sell my whole front grill/headlight/etc (blacked out) to someone else for some extra fun money.

Seems to me that the mesh is meant to be masked off and left the natural plastic color. I would not want to paint it. The rest, no problem. Just wash with prep paste (or Dawn) and a grey pad, adpro it and go.

Is there any "smart" way to sand that? Like bundle up some scotch brite on a skewer or popsicle stick? Some tool or product that I don't know of?

I do have a high schooler working for me from time to time...he might have a new project!

mitch, what is it made of? all abs? if you put acetone on a clean rag and you wipe the back side does the plastic melt leaving black residue on the rag?
I will check tomorrow, there was some labeling but nothing obvious jumped out at me.

Is that a factory grille? I looked at an OE one today and the OE one is made up of multiple pieces and more than one material.

Yes. Mine is used. I will scuff the painted parts and sand the chrome center, epoxy everything, block it a bit , then spray

I thought that the mesh part of those OE grilles was a different material than the painted portion. If you wouldn't mind carving a sliver off the back of the mesh and seeing if it sinks or floats, I would love to know. We've never been asked to paint that part.

I've had really good luck lightly bead blasting parts like that. Back way off with the blast gun and use some finesse, makes a nice surface for painting and gets in all the nooks and crannies. Beats the hell out of trying to sand it.
