Cast Parts

I desire to maintain a relatively concurs finish on the suspension components on my Mustang. That said, what is the best way to either mimic or preserve the cast appearance on cast parts?

Thanks,

John

I know I've seen spray paint to mimic fresh cast appearance, pretty sure it was just rattle can though.

Oh man, I hate to even post it up here .....but I saw a picture of either Rust Bullet or POR15 that has a "cast iron" color....and it looked pretty decent. These coatings seem to be universally hated here.

I've also used a "cast aluminum" rattle can color that worked pretty well.

cast is easy lol. epoxy prime your parts then mix up some 2k primer. turn the psi in your gun down to about as low as it can go. maybe 1 psi at most. its going to spit. make it so the spit droplets are about 1/16". mist a light coat on your parts. let flash then repeat. do this maybe 10 times until you get a nice even texture with 3/4 or so coverage. when its dry lightly spray your base color. prob a super fine silver or a fine metallic color of the galvanize you want. dont use a coarse metallic. finest one you can get in the color you want. you can use a matte or satin single stage as well. i just did some faux cast bronze light this way using a matte single stage. looks just like the real thing

Well the lights are out in my shop so i dont have a picture handy but here is a closeup of a 3d printed intake manifold i did for an engineering firm a couple years ago. They needed the prototype to look like cast aluminum
