Anyone use this poly primer? A friend of mine used it last night and borrowed my poly gun to do a 68 camaro and seemed to have some problems. He had a whole gallon, and ran out and diddn't even get one coat over the entire car. He said it was water thin, can pretty much see through the one coat. I have no clue about the stuff....he got it from the customer who says someone that he knows that does restos uses it and paints right over it (after wet sanding). After i advised against using it, because i know nothing about it, he used it anyway. I told him to use either slicksand or sikkens poly. Never had any problems out of the two.

I thought i remember someone on here using it...ChadS maybe? Anyway was just curious. I read the tech sheet on it, it says that you can topcoat it without priming or sealing over it. I just get queezy when i see that in a poly primer tech sheet.

I've used a fair amount of that primer over the years, and actually I sell about one case of it a month, they guys that use it love it, and they all spray with a large tip. I use a 2.2 tip when I spray it.

The primer will settle and needs to be really shaken before use.
It should by no means go on water thin, which makes me wonder if it settled and wasn't shaken?
Now I do have to say that the primer doesn't seem to go as far as one would think, and the first coat does tend to be a little transparent, but by no means should it be thin.

As far as topcoating it, that isn't something I do, I do have one customer that has done this a few times with good results but i'm not comfortable with doing so, I usually sand it untill i'm am breaking through all over and then put a 2k primer or epoxy over it.. That is one of the benefits of it's having a little bit of transparency. You can usually start to see that you are going to break through the primer before you actually sand through.

It's definetely different, I have never sprayed or used any other poly primer, i've always had really good luck with this one.
