I've also posted this question under tools in an attempt to get a quick answer.

I'm getting ready to go out and shoot my clear TODAY and just noticed the tech sheet says to NEVER use a 1.3 tip. I only have 1.3 and 1.8 tips. It's a DeVilbiss Starting Line gun. Would I be better off with the 1.8?

You can use the 1.3 but you will have to spray heavier (wetter) coats.
I wouldn't restrict the fluid by more than 1/2 turn. Also play with your air pressure to be sure you are not spraying it on dry.

I mixed it 1:1 and used the 1.3 with the fan at about 90% and the fluid flow at 2-3/4 turns out and 26 psi with the trigger pulled. It went on pretty well with some orange peel but that was most likely due to the guy dragging the air hose around the garage. I'm planning on wet sanding the car so the orange peel isn't an issue. All and all, the 1.3 tip was fine.
