Color chart?

Where can I view a paint chart for base coats?
For the SPI basecoats? If so there are none, you need to call SPI and they will send you color chips at no charge.

If base coat colors in general then you can view the chp books of a specific manufacturer like PPG or BASF by visiting the local paint jobber that carries a certain line and look through them. Jobbers are focused on Collision repair though so you may only see OEM colors from the last 15-20 years. Older chip books are sometimes available on Ebay and you can find some online. Or at a Shop that has been around for a long time. Keep in mind these are all for OEM colors. Custom colors are harder to find chips for. Some paint jobbers may have some chips but most don't. There is documentation for a lot of custom colors that various manufacturers have formulated but it is harder to find and usually requires the jobbers help. If you have a helpful jobber they can find formulas but most don't want to fool with a walk in cutomer looking for a custom color. House of Kolor is the only one that I know of that has many different color combo available to view online.

To add to the excellent info Chris just gave. Be very Leary of choosing any color based on line, or even a chip for that matter.

It is impossible to show a color acurately on line. Each monitor will have a slightly different color tint that, can and will, alter the appearance. Choosing a color from a chip book is also difficult because you can not visualize that small amount on a complete car and know what it will look like.

I do my very best to choose a color based on seeing it on another car and getting a paint code off of it. ….LOL, I spent a long time sucking up to a fellow at the NSRA Nationals to get a paint code for my roadster. I had bought two pints of midnight blue from paint chips and they both looked too purple for my taste on a spray out. After I made a “friend” out of this fellow I found out he had a late 80’s Mercedes midnight blue on the car. Still love that color on this car and even still remember the Concept paint code.
