well it has begun . going to peel the 56 then blow it apart to finish getting the paint off . have to pull the engine trans so i can do the firewall . most of the the rear qrts are done . have not found one spot where it had adhesion . little heat and i can peel it by hand . without heat is comes off in chips making a mess .
sucks going from a finished build back to a hull .

well i cant ship a car that the paint is falling off . i was paid to build it and paint it .
this is a prime example of trying a new product to save a few hundred dollars . this is a 10k dollar hicky .
in 50 years of painting i have never experienced this . i've screwed up every other way but never have i had paint not stick .

now you understand why i say foff when folks start talking about all these relabled junk shit paints .
the minute the word sumitt or tcp is mentioned i'm out . there is a reason quality paint is expensive .

I did a few completes in prospray, never really had any issues honestly. Did you notice the paint bubbling? I'm just curious what to keep in the back of my head if something ever comes up.

bubbles . it only takes one of these to wipe out months of profit . there was one painter who used it for years no problem , must have been something i did bla bla bla . heard through the grapevine a couple of these blew up on him and cost him his shop .
same with soda blasting . couple of finished builds go south your ruint .

this was dont when prospray was new . i had just got started when i had cancer and lost a few years of work .

And this was all sprayed wet on wet with epoxy reduced as a sealer? I'm only asking because that's my process, and if something ever comes up I'll know what I'm potentially dealing with.

hard to remember. i tried convincing myself i did not seal it but you can see the epoxy on the bench .
barry and i have spent hrs talking about this car . we'll just never know what happened . i do know i am not the only one who suffered this failure but who knows . all i do know is in 50 years i never had ppg do this .
this 55 was painted in 85 with sealer 70 / ppg lacquer / dupont 1280s . has the lacquer solvent pimples on front fender tops but other than that it still looks good .

Not accusing you of this shine, but I have seen base do this several times when it was applied outside the re-coat window of the sealer. Usually urethane sealer though.

Just my opinion and I'm not trying to be a bone head BUT for the life of me, I just don't know why anybody would seal anything before paint?
I can see it in the collision world but not in the restoration/ overall painting of a vehicle. Adding one more layer means one more chance of something going wrong! If you are spraying over a sanded/flat catalyzed surface what is the point? I have been doing high-end restoration work for about 30years and never sealed anything. Sorry I just don't understand it specifically to those who use Epoxy for sealer, sorry that one really strips my gears..... please don't hate me but I would be open to a good conversation with you about it

Shine, thanks for sharing this.
I too wonder why this happened. My guess epoxy is so tight & solvent resistant after cure that it doesn't let base dissolve/bite in even the slightest bit.
Need the boss' insight.
