Confused on what grit to sand base coat for additional coats

Guys I am painting my 1965 mustang with Wimbledon white (motobase) and had a couple of parts that got to much trash to denib in the first couple of coats of base. The directions in the tech manual ( perfect paint job) says to wet sand with 1500 and let set overnight and respray 2 additional coats. Will there be an adhesive issue with that fine of grit?

The reducer in the base should bite into the old base afaik. You could go little coarser grit too if it makes you better.

Thank you Don! This is my first white paint job and dam it’s hard to spray it with out a little dust showing up.
