Correct Order For Base and Clear Application

My car is going to be a BC/CC light metallic (if I ever get it done) and it's been recommended to paint it with all parts on the car. I'm pretty sure that I'd paint the jambs, inside of doors, bottom of trunk lid, inside of the trunk and hood first. Should they be sprayed with clear first and then put on the car for the outside paint and clear or should they all be painted and then taken apart for all of the clear.

there’s a number of ways you can do it. But most commonly you’ll mask off the top sides and outer panels, then paint the jams and underside of everything. Assemble the car, then soft edge & mask all the jams and spray the whole outside.

Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. I should spray the jambs, inside of the trunk and bottom of other parts and then clear them. Put the parts on the car, spray the complete exterior and then clear the exterior?

With a metallic and you being relatively inexperienced (no offense) I would do as 68 suggested. Paint the jambs underhood etc. first. Base/clear, then give everything plenty of time to cure. Putting everything in the sun for several days (or longer) would be a very good idea. Then hang the parts. Then before you hang everything, have plenty of masking tape on hand and mask everything off. Door jambs, underhood etc. I use tape and simply mask (tape) everything. That way you can hang the doors without fighting masking paper and not have to try and mask after everything is hung which is hard and always leads to some spots that get overspray on them. Key is for your paint to be well cured and to be able to mask then paint shortly after. If it is still fresh, don't use this method. Mask after you hang the parts.

The main area the method I described is useful is the hinge area of the doors, jamb and inside edge of the fender. That is always the hardest area to mask when everything is on the car. If you only did this area with tape prior and then masked everything else after hanging it would help to keep that area from getting overspray
