Engine bay metal prep

I didn’t talk directly to Barry but they said the 7 day window is assuming you’re painting in a paint booth without getting hit by UV, regardless of temperature.
From what I read in another thread and from what I observed with what I did, if you’re painting outside in direct sunlight you should do all the touch up work within 24 hours.
I was happy with my results until I tried to do touch up work a few days later.

A neighbor walked by and tirelessly told me, in a nice way, how crappy the firewall looked and offered to help me with the bondo sometime. The next day I decided to use sheet metal instead. I hammered some of the bumps of the firewall inward so the 18 gauge sheet metal could lay as flat as possible. There were still some parts where the sheet metal needed pressure to tack weld. Especially the narrow strip between the throttle linkage area and master cylinder. —maybe i should have bent this portion so it laid more flat before welding to not cause distortion with heat during welding..if that happens. Or cut out this portion. I tried to weld every 10 inches or so and move my way around to not cause to much heat and warpage. I also question if I should have cut out the old firewall before I welded this piece in.

When I do firewalls I weld the sheet metal over the original. I do cut out any flanges so the new piece sits flush. It's going to look alot nicer now. What is wrapped up in the bag? And how. Much time would it take to remove it?
