Epoxy / filler / re-epoxy questions

Hello all!
I’m pretty green when it comes to body work and telling you that up front & learning as I go.
Rebuilding a VW rabbit pickup, I have already replaced all the body panels that were rusty on the truck and have most of it sanded down to 80 grit so I can epoxy primer it.
I’m starting on the tailgate to see how things go using the SPI products.
I’m including photos of the truck and where I’m at so far but I’ll explain my questions.

So far I had the tailgate sanded to 80grit, cleaned with Waterborne W&G then Solvent W&G remover, then sprayed with SPI epoxy.
I waited a couple days then went over the panel filling small imperfections with 3m Platinum Filler 01171 (it’s what the local paint store had)
Then I sanded it with 80g then 180g.
I have a couple more areas I wanna go back over but I had a couple questions...

I have a couple break through spots from sanding which isn’t a big deal and I planned to re-spray those with epoxy as well as the filler areas.

Is it ok to use the (2) SPI W&G removers over the filler before I re-spray the epoxy? Or just use the solvent one? Just know that filler doesn’t like to get wet and wanna do it properly.

After I re-epoxy the areas I’m going to be spraying with high-build primer then sanding 180g, 220, 320 & maybe 400. Then seal it, base and clear. Going for a solid color so from what I’m reading that should be good enough for final grit before sealer, base then clear.

Trying to use the “perfect paint job” as a guild to help me through it, as it is a good reference for me as well as YouTube videos. Just trying to do what’s best.

Thanks!

As long as the W&G is completely evaporated before epoxy, either is fine. I feel more comfortable using the 710 around filler. Wipe it, blow it off with dry air, let it sit 30-45 minutes, then blow it off again before epoxy. PS My brother had a diesel Rabbit pickup he drove from Texas to Oregon. Cost him $50 to drive 2300 miles! Of course diesel was around $1 per gallon back then, but he got 50MPG.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll be sure to give the W&G plenty of time to dry
Yeah the old diesels are pretty awesome! If they are running good & not to difficult to work on. I also have a 1.5l diesel rabbit, 49hp haha

I bought a used VW truck in the early 80s
For 3,000 dollars with 33,000 miles.
Every week would leave FL and drive to ga.
40mpg ave and put 125,000 miles on it and sold for the same price I bought it for.
The truck to this day, I credit for my success as money was tight then.
Oh, that diesel was a fantastic engine.
