Epoxy turns from black to silver

Ok I’m sure I did something dumb but don’t know what it could be. We blasted and epoxied a front axle on Rileys 79 k10. Did the same as on the other axle and frame. Sandblasted, epoxied 3 coats of unreduced 30 minutes apart. A few days later the front axle turned from black to a silver in a lot of the areas. First pic is day we sprayed and the last two are a week later. Any ideas of what happened? 57 degrees all day and night but rained in the previous hour Before we started to blast.
Thanks
Dave

After referring to the manual- I appreciate the page reference- it seems that I just cut it to close. We began Saturday afternoon (see photo) with nice weather forecast. Should I razor test it? Should I blast and start over or will another coat resolve it?
I’m very curious as to why it only affected certain pars of the axle housing but not the U-Joints on either side
Thanks Crash.
Dave.

I am not sure. I've had other paints act that way and it had to do with moisture. Not sure with epoxy because I've always sprayed it inside a heated shop. If you want to save it, it needs heat, as much as you can put on it for as long as you can. Hopefully @Barry can help with this because this specific problem is not something I can help too much with.

Not uncommon when epoxy is shot in cold weather, bottom line is it blushed from cold humidity.
This happens a lot when say, 65 degrees and shot late in the day and gets cold that night.
Try shooting in the morning and put in the sun all day to cure out.
If the temp is 55 after about 60 minutes, the black will get to about 90 degrees.

This question is going to pop into my head very soon now cooler weather is coming Barry. So if I keep the Epoxy and gun in the house overnight but shoot it on a car that is say 50F in the morning as long as it is sunny and warms over 65 during the day out in the sun I am ok?

Jim

Metal temp is the item you must add to your plan. Put the car in the sun to warm up to 70 or hight than shoot. Roll out in the sun for a day.
Better yet, a kerosene torpedo from a big box store will heat the body to 70 in minutes for a one-time 150 dollar bill.

Yeah they have a ton of BTUs but they will also obviously produce CO2 and possibly CO (carbon monoxide) if the burner is malfunctioning, so everyone should be careful. A CO detector is recommended for garage spaces because our bodies can't tell us when there is too much CO in the air. Too much CO2 will cause a panic reaction and a desire to flee the area. Too much CO and you simply go to sleep and never wake up.

I have a small shop/work area. Used to use a torpedo/bullet style kerosene heater switched over to a ceiling mounted 240V electric heater. Love it compared to the torpedo. No fumes, no filling/spilling kero or diesel. The surprise to me was that it is much cheaper to operate as well.

Earlier this year a friend of mine remodeled his house and replaced his 100K BTU gas furnace with a heat pump. Since I'm "the buddy with a truck and trailer" he asked me to help him make a dump run. The furnace was 10 years old and in great shape. It didn't go to the dump
Spent about $500 in ducting/piping/electrical and propane conversion and installed in the shop attic.

Works great! Lucky situation!

Thank you for all your comments. In the end we took the differential back in scuffed it and re-shot it in the shop and ran some torpedo heaters on propane. I just had my nephew check it out and everything is black as it supposed to be. Eventually will get the waste oil burner furnace running but just didn’t have it going temporary so making other things work. Thanks again guys. Dave
