epoxy vs urethane sealer

which do you prefer? ive been using spi epoxy as a sealer for many paint jobs at my work. we have a semi-down draft booth so i like the slower dry time so it keeps a wet edge better and doesnt leave any dry spray on other panels. but sometimes the speed of using a urethane sealer is nice. just like to have something slower for doing all overs.

any adhesion differences between the two using them wet on wet? generally dont have the time to seal, wetsand, remask and then paint. so like to just do it wet on wet. usually let the epoxy flash for an hour or so before base coat but noticed the new spi tech sheet calls for 2 hours minimum now. is there a max you would do for flash times before having to sand it?

also what about mixing brands? generally use diamont base or dbc. i know mixing brands can sometimes give you warranty issues if something were to give you issues.

i have been using the epoxy as a sealer for probably 5 years now. i mix 1:1:1 and just 1 coat is sprayed, about the same way as an adhesion promoter. it not for coverage, only for base adhesion. i wait 10 min and go right to basecoat. in 10 min reduced like that it will flash off dull just like base and your ready to go. you cannot spray it thick or do 2 coats. if you do then you need to wait an hour. one med coat and your done. pretend its basecoat.

whenever i used the spi epoxy i mixed it 1:1:20-25%

thats probably goin down a little heavy at that rate. thats how i usually use it as a primer. not that its a problem but you will have a little more texture to it and you will need to probably wait the 2 hours that are recommended. epoxy for a sealer, i just dont like it thick. its too finicky, too slow to kick off and if its not cured for atleast a day it soaks up solvents from the basecoat. imo, the thinner the better.
