Eyebrow hair in clear

Hello group,

Of all the care I have taken in making a temporary home made spray booth with 1 micron filters to keep dust down, I found a small eyebrow hair embedded in the clear coat while block sanding the door with P600 last night (this effort was part of the Clear Mil Thickness thread). I don't know how this got past my face mask. It's about 2/16" and curved in length. The color of the paint is Butternut Yellow and is a solid. I have tried to carefully wet sand the area but no success and I'm afraid to breaking through the clear in that section if it is indeed in the first coat.
I have an Iwata Revolution DA air brush which can make a pen point size line. Can I mist just enough butternut yellow paint over the trapped hair before I flow coat the panel without it leaving a blemish?

Thank You,
Mike

I don't think that would work real well without showing something. You might as well sand until it is gone if you do go threw then you can do a touch up with the proper gun but if you don't go threw then you saved yourself.

It never fails when you take every precaution something happens if it was something you could care less about and slam it out it comes out spotless. Happens all the time no worry you'll get it.

Hi Datec,

This is my first at working with BC/CC but I do learn quick. If I do happen to break through the clear to base layer but not break through the base to primer layer, can I use the airbrush to dust some fresh base color and flow coat over that along with the whole panel (after the fresh base dries)? My thinking is the hair is in the first layer so I'll sand a little at a time to sort of 'sneak up' on it without breaking through to the base.

Thank you for your reply!

I'm not sure I would use an airbrush, I would use at least a touch up gun to get a nice blend and pattern. I would be afraid of the color not laying down proper and showing a shift where you touched it up. I have seen it happen with sold colors and so I treat all colors as though they are metallic to play it safe. If you sand it and happen to get it out try buffing it and see if you went through if you didn't then your good if you did then you can spray it but I wouldn't respray unless I had to. If you feel the clear is too thin and you haven't sanded through then a reclear would work.

My plan is to flow coat the panels being this is my own car and want to eliminate the faint urethane wave ripples I see in the doors. If I can get it out by sanding and not break through (which I feel confident can be done) then I'll follow up with flow coats.
Thank You,
Mike

If you spot the base in, spot some clear over that in a slightly larger area. Then when you sand it down, you will have a uniform clear coated finish like the rest of the vehicle.

That makes perfect sense to me. I'll do that if a breakthrough to base does occur. So far so good with the re-sanding using P600 dry to get rid of the 5000 grit finish. I hope to get the flow coating done this week.

Thank you,
Mike

To wrap this topic up, I was able to eventually get the eyebrow out without breaking through the clear by wet sanding it with P800.
It took a while with this grit but I wanted to creep up on it.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Mike
