Harley painting

Who of you paint Harley's? I started looking into it and practically ran away. So many color combos, expensive paint and customers that know people, if you know what I mean.

Painted my own Ultra Classic and then some fenders for a '59 Pan Head.
Not something I would expect to do for customers unless they disassembled the bike and brought me the parts.

i have painted one or two;). repairing the factory paint and matching is a real pia. you cant use harley's paint. its garbage and you never know what your going to get. it could be a base clear or it could be single stage and they dont even tell you what it is on the can. i would always refuse to use harley paint even if the customer brought it to me. every time i repaired i would formulate the color here from scratch. i would charge a flat fee to formulate each color. most of the colors are 2 stage so for those i charge to formulate for each stage. in the end its best the just go buy a brand new part from harley. for custom stuff its a different story. then i just use whatever colors i want.

The shop they currently use only charges $200 for a fender. I don't need some guy that worships his bike breathing down my neck.

When I got hit on the Blue Ridge Parkway 7-8 years ago, the fairing on my Ultra was damaged. I think the replacement fairing, pre-painted in two tone and pin striped with two colors was something like $500. For a stock replacement part, factory really made sense.

the oem harley front fairings arent abs. its been a long time since i did a repair or mod on a stock one but i think i remember them being a urethane of some sort. they dont plastic weld well or at all.

I've painted a few.. Made some stands for the twin tanks so all sides could be painted in one sitting. Without swinging in the breeze....
The tour packs and saddle bags were the pain, with the riveted hinges. Had to get a rivet squeezer for the semi-tubular rivets so we could paint "everything" and not just tape around...
