Help - Dust Nibs

Well my plan of spraying my seal coat and color today and clear tomorrow is not looking good. My seal coat sprayed out nice and flat, but I have quite a bit of trash around the hood, I think it is coming from my masking paper. I didn't remove the old paper, I just put new over the top of the old.

I am going to remove all of the paper and remask it, can I just hit the dust nibs with a gray scotchbrite and shoot my base? Or do I have to wetsand and respray the sealer? How rough of a grit will the base fill?

No need to respray the sealer usually. Sand the nibs off with some 600,800,or 1000 grit, no need to scuff the entire surface. A scotchbrite won't remove dirt nibs completely. You can also remove nibs in the basecoat after the base flashes and cures enough to sand. I'll often seal and shoot a coat or two of base and let it set for a few hours then come back and denib and shoot the next coats of base. Tack rag the car between coats of color if you're getting a buildup of overspray.

I spoke with Barry yesterday afternoon and he also recommended removing the nibs in the basecoat. So I put 2 coats on last night, wetsanded this morning and just finished 2 more coats, it came out great. Now on to the clear...
