I sprayed epoxy sealer 1:1:1 and I got some runs. Can I fix this by wet sanding or do I need to sand runs out and start all over again
What I would do is wet sand them out with 600 and spray another coat 1:1:1
I've double coated sealer before with no problems. Just have to wait proper flash times. Someone else may have a better solution but that's what worked for me.
Thanks elwood. How long till I can sand the sealer?Just sprayed today. Should I wait till tomorrow? What I would do is wet sand them out with 600 and spray another coat 1:1:1

Thanks again crashtech. I have heat in my garage and have it on now. Is the correct thing to do is wait till tomorrow or could I get on it tonight?Seems like some heat will be required as the epoxy dries pretty slowly.
When I reduce epoxy should I adjust my gun settings. I have an lph400 1.4 and been spraying unreduced epoxy 2-1/2 turns out and full fan 28psi at gun 120psi from regulator on wall with decent results. I didn't change them when I sprayed the epoxy sealer. Thanks for any help.I use a 25% reduction with good results.
Don
Don't have one of those but if I did I would need at least two.If you sand it too soon, it's going to make a mess. What I was talking about is an infrared light like this:
Infratech INF14-1000 120V Medium Wave System Portable Infrared Curing Lamp with One Head

Only you are going to be able to tell when the runs are sandable. Right now they might still be pretty soft inside. You can start sanding them really easy, if they tear open and start making a mess, it's too soon.
Will do. Going to scuff and reshoot today but I'm just going to reduce epoxy 25% and make some adjustments as Chris and Don had suggested and we'll see how it goes. thanks againJust to be on the safe side, after runs are sanded out, scuff the rest of panel before respraying any more sealer. Since it's reduced it dries faster and I don't remember how long the window is to recoat without sanding.
Got ya. Just finished sanding and scuffing. Going to wipe it down, wait the hr. Tack it and give it another try. I'll post my results. Thanks to you and everyone else for passing on your knowledge. At 25% spray light coats ed, too heavy and it will crater. It has a small learning curve but its awesome epoxy, best ive ever used. When you get it figured out you'll see its worth the trouble.
Your questions are far from stupid. The only reason a pro is a pro is knowing how to correct mistakes from experience in doing so. When spraying your 1:1:1 sealer, the runs were probably from trying to achieve coverage with a thin product. Mixing it that thin leaves a transparent coat when sprayed correctly, just for future reference.I realize to some my questions are stupid but I'm just not sure how to properly correct my screw ups and would rather seek advice then do what I think is right. You don't know what you don't know.
Thanks texasking and that coupled with my less than stellar gun skills and you get runs . I'm all ears when it comes to this stuff guys so I'll have another question tomorrow when I make my next mistake. Painting cars ain't easy. Oh and by the way with all the info ascertained from this website and those who responded to my questions I was finally able to get the rear body section of my corvette painted today and managed to spray the sealer with no runs but I did get 2 very small runs by 2 of the rear tail lights recesses when spraying the SS. I would think most amateurs might get runs there so I didn't want to disappoint the car painting Gods, so I made 'em happy, again. But overall it came out pretty good less the trash which is another thing I haven't been able to get a handle on. But I got a lot of sandpaper and gotten pretty good at using it. ....and a lot of pros. Some spots like that are difficult to get wet enough to look right without an occasional run. After a few thousand bumpers, I've gotten pretty good at themI would think most amateurs might get runs there
