Help with painting procedure.

I'm about to paint and change the factory color of my 98 dodge ram. Just aligning the replacment panels and adjusting doors I'm scuffing some of the paint on the panels. What do you guys recommend for a procedure so I don't scratch up the paint once I finally get to hanging the panels for the last time? What's the best way to paint the door hinges being that they are constantly opening and closing.

I just changed colors on my old 96 f 150, I had the doors off and painted the jambs and hinges while the doors I hung up and painted the inside. After a few days a friend helped to get all back together and I painted the exterior as a whole unit. I used some moving blankets to cushion the edges of doors and panels until they were bolted solid, I'm no pro but it did work out good.

Thanks for your input. I like the idea of moving blankets. I'll have to try that when I go to put the doors back on. I usually work by myself but I'll have to get a friend or my wife's help to reassemble after painting.

I put the doors on by myself but it was hard, I sat in a chair and used my knees to help steady the door. The struggle was trying to keep the edges clear from other parts, My friend was a life saver on this one. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks I got a ways to go yet and I gotta revamp my air supply a little more yet but it's getting there.
