Hoser gun

I've always had trouble spraying high build primers like Turbo and now Slicksand. I used the Vaper 2.3 gun today for Slicksand and it was SLOW. Then I thinned it but still pretty slow going. Should I drill out the tip to ~3.0, or does anyone have another gun they recommend for these thick high build primers?
Thanks in advance.

i have shot slicksand and gelcoat with the vaper . i can tell you for sure if you do not rinse the nozzle between fills it will not shoot anything. i keep a squirt bottle handy. every time i refill i wipe out the cup then stick my bottle into it and rinse the nozzle .

It's funny I had the same problem with my Vaper 2.3. I modified it and started using it for chipguards. I bought another Vaper for my slicksand and primer. The new vaper lays it on as fast as I can move. Go figure . As you probably already know, remove filter.

What pressure do you spray at? I don't think I can open it to 3mm, not enough stock on the nozzle. Do you thin the material in order to spray?

I think I ended up at 35lbs pressure but like Shine told me,use whatever pressure works best for you. I never thinned the material yet. Like I said the new Vaper just lays it on heavy and fast. I don't know why cause the old one did not.

each fill open fluid wide open ( no air ) and use bottle to flush the nozzle.

In addition to the excellent advice that Shine is giving, mix only enough to spray one coat especially if it is a large area (complete car for example). Both for poly primers and the SPI urethane primers. Especially now that warmer weather is here. Mix, spray, clean. (one coat) Mix, spray, clean. (2nd coat) continue until you have the number of coats that you want to spray.

I do this for epoxy and clear too. But with poly a simple cup rinse and spay will leave solids in the nozzle.

I use an air gunsa 3.0 and I've switched to evercoat 4:1 superbuild for my poly. I used to spray with a finishline 2.2, I use that one for SPI 2k now.

I'm sure there are significant internal variances in these guns, so one may work completely different than another. I already had a 2.0 vapar when Shine first mentioned them & it did pretty fair.
Next epoxy spray session I'll do 1 of 2 things which immensely help push thicker fluids.
Use myTitan 6 stage turbine at work which has pressure assist gravity feed
or
use my regulator adapter(like on sata in pic) which gives me a small low pressure air feed & to the lid & modify lid for the 1/4" air tube.
Reducing mixture will help spray faster & smoother, just have to add another coat or 2 for build.

I drilled the nozzle out a little on the green vaper 2.3 and sprayed Evercoat Super high build. It sprayed really well and used up the whole batch, so there was nothing sitting in the gun between flashtime. Evercoat has a new version of their super build their rep. gave me to try out. It has a built in guide coat. It dries pink, but sands to gray. Pretty cool. Call your evercoat rep. for a gallon sample and promise to give feedback. Feedback is what they want.

looks like pepto, lol!

I had tried a poly from..... (bear with me it was years ago...).... It was called "all u need" by.... clausen. I believe they were doing built in guide coat as well. sprayed almost black and sanded gray.

is that pink stuff in the 4:1 line?
