Hotrod black (egg shell finish)

Due to resin shortages, when we stopped making it and then decided not ever to make it, we took a beating from jobbers and shops.
We knew from the first time we made it we had the best for sprayabilty and consistency.

The one thing I always wanted to do was play with adding a couple of different Nanos, but I did not know what to expect.
You won't notice a difference in spraying, but a simple knife test next to old is 150 to 250
Percent stronger and so apparent no further tests were nessicary

We are not 100% sure if we will bring it back as we are waiting on feedback from all of our test shops to give us a final opinion.
So far, we're at 100% positive from shops that spray flat blacks a lot.

The formula is to the 1000th of a gram exact as before, but my main concern was not knowing what the Nanos would do or change; when I had the mix right, the testing took a different turn.

The black is set up at a specific gloss reading, and we have always said, if you mix 6.1, it will have less gloss, and 8.1 is dead.
To increase gloss, we have shops mixing 3.1 and herd offew doing 2.1 for more gloss.
This was the breaking test, and all the above mixes have not changed.

I've done a couple completes with the SPI Flat Black, and they came out really nice. On one of them we chose it because the guy had pretty much ruined his Fiero by trying to fix and paint it himself. We figured the flat finish would help hide the carnage. A couple coats of epoxy and some Hot Rod black made it look better than it had any right to. Funny thing is the moron guy actually tried to wax it after I told him not to and even gave him a bottle of spray to use. But I saw it recently and somehow the paint eventually shrugged that wax off like it never happened. It still looks good many years later.

Man, it was the luck of the draw him waxing it.
I've had two cases where a few weeks later, the car turned white, and the only fix was a redo.

I like to say that I tilt luck in my favor by keeping vehicles in my 24/7 warm shop until I think they are ready to go. But I can't say for sure. Definitely thought that he had ruined it and told him to wipe it off with charcoal lighter fluid once he told me what he'd done.

It's just the closest thing an average person might have to wax & grease remover, it's basically naphtha. Camp stove fuel would work too. I use it at home to remove sticker residue etc.

Great I need some for a 1969 Talladega, 1969 Cobra Jet, 1969 Mach 1 and my 1978 Mustang II. Also a 1972 Pantera he wants the body SPI Dark Red with a flat black hood.

Seems like remember hearing that you used to produce a Blue base.
If that’s the case, any chance you will ever offer Blue again?

No, on the new colors, and yes, I made viper blue for several years.
I wanted to make Laferrari blue see picture and Marina blue, and Nassau blue, but the guys did not want any new colors, and I understood why.

Is the Blue just a color that doesn’t/didn’t sell well and you just stick with the most popular? Or is there something in the manufacturing process that makes it a pita? Sorry, just curious…

Room, stocking more tints and all paint companies have good colors, but you pay, so if I priced at 300 a gallon, they dont want the call how it compares to Omni or nason as you are less.
Just a combo of things

Thank you for the response.

With 100% positive feedback, we will be making a batch next week.
Andy sent a letter to jobbers announcing
It's coming back yesterday.
Good stuff- I saw it in your tech book(which is great!) and then saw you did not seem to offer it! I look forward to trying it out- I just picked up some cheapy Kirker stuff. Now I wish I waited.
Used your red epoxy too for the first time. Nice stuff, easy to use, and sands nicely!
