Hours for “perfection “

on my next project i plan to use vpa for filler and most likely slicksand . then epoxy . not sure how far i will take it since the car market is in the toilet . but i have 3 of these so i need to build at least one to see how it goes . vette suspension and LS powered .

Shine,

Ever since you posted you were looking for fleetlines, I've been curious about why specifically 4 doors? Finally had to ask...

Hope your recovery is progressing well,

Lance

the build will be a luxury protouring style car . a fordor fits the luxury style better than a tudor . a tudor is a pia to get in and out of . i have built several fordors over the years . the fleetlines have the same side profile . only difference is an extra handle .

thats good news...removing the plug n play port is a milestone...i have the scar as a reminder from 18 years ago from mine...best of luck on the projects...and protect yourself as you probably already know.

no more chemo for me . damn near killed me with it . i'm a dog wormer now .

i dont even smell paint . but in 45 years i've got a dose or 2 of it. old lacquer days took their toll on me along with smoking damn cigarettes for 20+ years .

Around 100k and under is still doing well is it not? I think the hedge fund guys were driving the prices on a lot of the stuff. Couldn't believe what some fairly mass produced Porsche 911's were bringing last year. Way overpriced. The bottom has fallen out on the Musclecar market as well it seems. Market is kinda shifting now. More millennials, lots of the older guys are passing away. Japanese cars are hot right now as well. Will be interesting to see what happens at Barret-Jackson in January.

when you have a solid economy as we do now folks dont park their money in collector cars . far better investments out there .
right now it is around 60 cents on the dollar . 100k cars are bringing around 60k .

people would ask about my pink car and i tell them at 6'6 250 i can paint it any color i want . loved that car .

I think part of it is that when the economy is good, the high rollers are more selective on what they buy. Tri-5s are down also, mostly because the baby boomers are dying off, or just selling off because of personal problems. There was an example of this at the Las Vegas Barrett Jackson in October, a run of the mill original restoration on a 57 Convertible with no power options, apparently nothing special except the quality of the restoration---$170,500

Edit: It takes at least two bidders to run the price up, so someone else was willing to pay about the same price. I just noticed that this same car is for sale on ebay with a starting bid of $100,000, with no takers yet and probably won't be on ebay.

I went to Barrett auction in Phoenix once. My thoughts were they have plants in the crowd that run up the prices.
Could be wrong but it seemed the same few people were always bidding but not winning.

Shoot Shine. You don't need to be 6' 6". You just need to be really secure in your masculinity. Here is my '49 Merc I built.

I will admit, I had one guy tell me I might sell it painted pink or I may sell it with a big block and a four speed but I never would find anybody that would buy it both ways! :)

He was wrong. :)

Absolutely those auctions have plants. Especially for the higher end no reserve cars. Think of it as seller protection. On an episode of Chasing Classic Cars, their is a scene where Carini is at an Auction and the one of the Shills is asking him if he is going to lower the reserve. Carini asks "is it real" and the shill responds "yeah it's a real bid". If you look at the fine print of most of the various Auction houses terms and conditions they state that they reserve the right to bid on something.

John, I like everything about that Merc but the color:p. Who would have thunk it you and Shine into pink cars.o_O Sad day at the SPI forum.:D

There is a long story behind me painting the Merc pink. Probably not appropriate for me to hijack the thread with it though.

the 46 had red pearl on it. car won best of show just about everywhere it went . always had a crowd around it. i was just tired of red or black cars and wanted something different for a change. it's still out there somewhere. last i heard it was in dallas .

BJ also owns some of the cars themselves to set the “tone” of the auction. They always seem to have the same hemi cuda at each auction. Funny when it is unloaded from a BJ trailer and gets loaded back into the same trailer.
